For example, what if Hakeem retired after winning those two titles. What if Shaq retire after threepeat. Or Kobe after 2010. Or Lebron after 2016. Or Bird after 86. Would they be seen differently? Ranked differently?

That would surely leave a lot of what ifs

Depends how many legacies, or “legs,” a guy has.

For instance Lebron has three legs. And theyre all TREMENDOUSLY impressive.

Hope that answers your question.

Those would all be ridiculous, the "oldest" one of that group would be Hakeem at 32. The NBA would have a serious problem if it's GOAT players kept retiring between 29-31

Doesn't matter at all.

Lots of couch potatoes I have watched games with kept and keep on insisting that someone is washed up, or should retire when they said so, tennis is a good sport for them to keep saying "________ should pack it in this year".

In boxing if Roy Jones beat Antonio Tarver and retires he likely would be in the same level as Mayweather and Pacquiao.

kobe was the beginning of tru longevity and passed the torch to bran

Virtually improve his prime (stats & narrative), but his longetivity get a bad hit (totals & accolades).

I guess but would that change anything?

No one cares about "per game stats", which obviously rewards early quitters.

Total stats or nothing.
