Summary: They need the rim-running lob threats they had last year + more shooting and playmaking. Preferably in the same player -- Kyle Lowry, for example.
1. Sign Dwight Howard and/or Javale McGee to minimum deals.
WHY: They need high quality rim-running lob threats. They've missed this element to their offensive scheme. One of them would be ideal, but both would be swell. They've still got Marc Gasol, so they'll have a 2-3 center rotations that's big, long, defensive-oriented, and versatile.
2. Get rid of/sign & trade Dennis Schroder.
WHY: Lakers were better off with Danny Green. He was a better shooter, better defender, had more size. Also fit better chemistry wise. Dennis' shooting has been disappointing, but not surprising. That one season in OKC was truly an outlier -- he's back to his usual 33-35% shenanigans.
3. Hope that Montrezl leaves.
WHY: Good player, but not what LA needs.
4. Use Montrezl/Schroder salary for shooting & playmaking.
WHY: Think they'll have to S&T Schroder. Montrezl has a player option, but might get a bigger deal -- who knows. Lakers need a guy like Kyle Lowry -- someone who can shoot, and facilitate.
