"Here's something you don't see, well, maybe ever in the NBA playoffs: A team seeded seventh is a betting favorite to beat a team seeded second in a series. That's the case for the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Phoenix Suns with L.A. opening as a -270 series favorite at William Hill Sportsbook and Phoenix at +220 even though the Suns finished nine games better than Los Angeles in the Western Conference regular-season standings and have home-court advantage.

It's the first time a No. 7 seed has been favored to win a Round 1 series since at least 1988. Over the last five non-bubble postseasons, teams with home-court advantage won 74 percent of those series."

Lakers were MASSIVE favorites but Phoenix aint a poverty bubble bath 1st round Least team.

The Lakers were the exact team that led them to the mediocre record and seed.

This team was a low level playoff team. There’s nothing misleading about it. They were injured and awful.

It's amazing how quickly Lakers fans forgot the fact that they needed CP3 injured to win game 2 WITH a healthy AD and KCP(as well as lost game 1), and Ayton was shitting in AD's Cheerios in game 4 before AD(who was 2 of 9 shooting) went out and the Suns were already winning.

Ayton averaged 79.6% FG in the series which was the highest FG% ever in a playoff series in the shot clock era(minimum 50 FGA) and his best games were against AD.

With a broken AD, LBJ, KCP, and the 7 seed? Nah

This was a case of LeBron with his back to the wall. 7th seed vs 2 seed.

Airupthere

I had the lakers winning the championship even against the nets towards end of the playoffs. We saw that even with a hurting AD, the lakers went 2-2 against the suns and it looked like the lakers was about to take it. Evidence of the confidence was how lebron and the lakers were clowning around. That was until AD did not play in games 5 and 6, and it completely changed the tone of the series with 2 back to back blowout games. That is the value of AD, who was not even 100% to the lakers.

Yup agreed, injuries played a factor. This is often the case though. Does that mean 16 and last year are asterisks? Can't have it both ways buddy
