AI just isn't a top 30 player like people seem to think he is don't know what to tell you.
He was very influential and memorable though, which causes people to overrate him.

defensively? Everyone

offensively? quite a few

very inefficient chucker that plays his own style of lebronze ball except with a better jumpshot

I wouldn't want him on my team personally. If he's sooo great then why did he and prime melo do anything together? Billups was also on that nuggets team. Dude is lucky he took a game off the lakers too, bucks should have been in that championship but the refs decided that wasn't gonna happen.

There are literally 100s. I would rather have a guy like Boris diaw or shane battier on my team.

Let’s add Hakeem, David Robinson, Gervin, and Isiah Thomas too. There’s others

Was Iverson really more impactful that Dominque?

Prime Dominique was similar level to AI, but that has more to do with people sleeping on Nique and thinking he was just an athlete

at his best not a whole lot. he wasn't the most efficient but unlike a lot of the players listed, he could get you a bucket when it counted. played through contact better than most too. iverson would be a monster in today's pucce ass game lol

next time someone calls iverson "overrated" link em REAL PLUS MINUS. espn's impact measure.

http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/year/2005/sort/ORPM/position/2

1999 SGs: #1 in offensive +/- & #1 in overall real +/-
2000 SGs: #2 in offensive +/- & #3 in overall real +/-
2001 SGs: #3 in offensive +/- & #4 in overall real +/-
2002 SGs: #5 in offensive +/- & #3 in overall real +/-
2003 SGs: #4 in offensive +/- & #3 in overall real +/-
2004 SGs: #6 in offensive +/-
2005 SGs: #1 in offensive +/- & #6 in overall real +/-
2006 SGs: #2 in offensive +/- & #6 in overall real +/-

these are iverson's best years. keep in mind too that around this time, kobe/carter/ray/reggie/wade/manu/redd/finley were also playing at their best.

He's not number 1 in 2005 according to that link. Youre only looking at offensive rpm. Total rpm he was the 16th ranked SG and 86th ranked overall player. LOL. This is exactly what were talking about. Perception vs reality.

which is bigtime. none of those guards impacted games on defense like bigmen did. unlike offense, defense is better measured through team play anyway.

iverson was ranked #6 overall btw. click the "WINS" tab. that appropriately adjusts for minutes & games played.

I'm just saying if you're a +4 on offense but a -3 on defense... how does that not count? Guards can't impact defense like a big man, but they don't have to be way deep in the negative either. Shit... Manu was hugely in the positive for defense and he's a guard too. Kobe in his worst prime year ever was a 0. -3 is a whole different level of bad. That means he was a defensive liability on the level of 5'6 Isaiah Thomas from a few years ago.

But I don't have as much of a problem with Iverson in regular seasons. He actually was good in them a lot. Its in the playoffs where his impacts fell off a cliff and his negative leadership intangibles that put me off. He plays a dumb brand of ball. Baby manu washed him and Marbury in the 2004 Olympics for a reason. Way smarter and better basketball player.

ai wasn't good on defense. no argument there. it gets overblown though, and opens up a can of worms for guys like chuck & magic. i've already seen 2 posters discredit reggie because he wasn't the 2 way player richmond was. reggie supposedly had "questionable impact" because he was only great on one side of the ball. idk about you, but to me, that sounds like a dumb argument.

we know the motto, better offense > better defense. however you wanna slice it, impact is impact. bad individual defense is often hidden and successfully too, because team defense is first-rate.

iverson averaged 31 & 10 on 47/41/90 against the 05 pistons. in the playoffs :oldlol: let him stack the deck like modern stars, and he probably rings too.

I do think he'd be better in today's spaced out era for sure but that 1 playoff series accounts for like 2% of his playoff career.
