View Full Version : Luka Doncic has more 40+ point playoff games in the playoffs than 33yo Stephen Curry

-Doncic has scored over 40+ five times in only 13 playoff games.
-Curry.....? has only scored over 40+ twice in the post season in 125 games

It's interesting because Stephen Curry scored over 40+ ten times just this season. Luka, only four. Really puts into perspective the players who rise to the occasion and feed off the pressure vs the regular season superstar who showboats against lottery teams

Not one to defend steph but it's not really fair comparing stats of someone playing within a real team system to someone playing in a ball dominant one.

As amazing as that stat sounds on first read...

... this is the correct take on it.

Luka’s early achievements, as impressive as they are, cannot be accurately compared to Steph’s. Their usage rate differences and supporting casts aren’t similar enough to serve as an early barometer for comparative greatness. Apples to oranges. Let them both be GREAT.

Even more impressive IMO is that Luka’s pulled even with Curry in FMVP votes.

It's not fair to compare scoring dropoffs between reg and post season because one player monopolizes the offensive by running off 4 screens every possession vs another player who is a floor general and quarterback every possession?

Sorry Luka, it's not fair that your're too sound of a basketball player with your playmaking and can create your own shot with a step back. It's better off we have you in a real offensive system where your dependent on turning your 4 teammates into traffic cones, freezing them out. We can't applaud your playoff elevation because you're guarding kawhi and george on defense, while the other guy sits in the corner on defense every posession as klay and wiggins pick up the opposing best guard.

Every basketball offense system at its core is designed for the teams best offensive player. There's no real or not real offensive system, what matters is how effective the system works and how well the best player adapts within that system.

One thing we know for an absolute fact, if Luka's 3 point shot isn't falling he can still affect the game in a magnitude of ways, playmaking, rebounding, yelling at refs. If stephen curry's shot isn't falling within his offensive system, how affective is he to that offense? You don't get extra credit for a being a decoy.

Luka has to adapt when his shot isn't pouring. Stephen Curry can't adapt

Luka looks good on paper, but until you can translate that to deep post-season runs, it won't count for much. Look at what's happening to Giannis' reputation now.

:applause:

The substance of the OP went over his head. It's not about Luka's high scoring tripling Curry's playoff career. It's the fact Curry's recognized as one of the best scorers all time and his shit falls off the map drastically when playoffs arrive. Everytime, the 40pts by 3rd qt disappear.

But at least he blessed us with a play-in shoulder shimmy chest pump before getting bent over by 37yo Brand and sent packing by Ja Morant

Yep, let's act as if curry has never been in a stacked team in the last five years. People do forget now tho because two of their former finals mvps, kd and iggy are gone. Demarcus cousins has been to three different teams already after 2019 finals and klay hasn't played yet since two years ago. Plus, they were favored to win in their most recent finals against the raptors despite injury woes but it seems they couldn't beat anyone there aside from kong's cavaliers. Curry even had a 47-point game in game 3 there but couldn't lead the dubs to a win against the underdog raptors without all-star caliber help. Poor thing.
