I agree with this. Vince also underachieved compared to his counterparts (Pierce)

Yeah, it's amazing. The guy looked totally washed up; hadn't dunked since 2019. Now, he makes highlight reel dunks every game.

It's funny how the younger generation that never watched VC play in Toronto are the ones asking for VC's number to be retired in Toronto.
The dude literally gave up on his team during the last season. He walked the ball up the court, jacked up a stupid jumpshot, and walked back on defense laughing.
He also stopped dunking because he thought it was "over rated".. and then proceeded to dunk every possession on the Nets.
He was a mentally weak loser but people dont see that. All they see are his highlights.

I was a Vince Carter fan back in the day. My first non Jordan non Lakers jersey was of Vince Carter. He never gave any chance for Bosh to showcase his talents in his sophomore season. he was obviously sandbagging in his last season with the raptors.

I don't recall the exact reasons, but one of them was that he HATED Sam Mitchell. He played well with the Nets obviously but he was never the same after that injury in 2002.

Blake was the reason they won game 1, 18-16 with crazy hustle and fight. Guy is balling out.

Well when he's only played like 20 minutes a game all season long, one vintage game here and there isn't that surprising. Even Melo had some of those.

yeah but if you watch him you can literally see he could still do 20+ as 1st/2nd option... he just mailed it in.

If that were true, it means he's mailing it in now since he scoring like 7 points.

Playing with scrubs in Detroit vs. being the 4th/5th option on a title contender.. he's getting wide open 3s and layups/dunks. Of course he didn't hustle as hard on defense and on the glass in Detroit after coming back from injury, but he was playing for a tanking squad, so why would he sacrifice his body again like he did when he led them to the POs in 2019?

Yeah why would a professional athlete, who is being paid "enough", actually play hard every night. The demands some of you people have are, pardon my french, ****ing outrageous!

To be fair, there are many people who are paid a lot but don't have the motivation to work hard. Money, even a lot of it, can not spark any motivation, especially if it's seen as useless to work hard. If you're losing every night, and you're accustomed to the level of pay, then you're probably not going to work too hard for no reason. Now, I think a pro should putting in some consistently high level of effort every game, but I can understand why they wouldn't. People aren't robots.

Ok, so be consistent and bash every athlete in the league because most of these guys aren't going all out in the RS to begin with as they try to be healthy for the Playoffs, and Blake only played 18 games last season and played on a tanking Pistons squad with Jerami ****ing Grant as their #1 option this year.. He forfeited 13 mil of his guaranteed contract in order to get the buyout as well.

Yeah I exaggerated. And you have valid points. But asking a professional to not "pack it in" completely is in my opinion, not asking too much. I mean, he CAN quit and not be a waste of space on the court.

"most of these guys aren't going all out in the RS to begin with as they try to be healthy for the Playoffs" . You think this is OK? This means that players on the teams that might not make the playoffs should just say **** it and not go at it hard? I will bash any pro who has that excuse, and I do.

I have no issue with that.
That's how the NBA works, stars pace themselves for the Playoffs, which is why the MPG for superstars is as low as it's ever been, and why less guys are playing 90+% of the games in the RS. I have no problem with teams resting older players in order to prolong their careers and to keep them in shape for the POs, I do have an issue with players sitting out B2Bs and playing 32-34 mpg in their mid-20s. It's fine for young players on tanking teams to go all out while trying to improve on their game, but tanking teams will cut their minutes and shut them down (SGA, for example) with made-up injuries in order to get a better chance at a top 3 pick.

I agree that they still have an obligation to the fans to not pack it in with some exceptions (e.g., resting stars for a playoff run). I just wanted to defend him a bit since I think packing it in something many of have done at times, so I don't want to pile on him for that.

He don't want to play for Detroit.
To be fair, let's set the record straight.
Blake played his ass off for Detroit in the 18/19 season. It was the best season of his career. But he got hurt just before the playoffs started. Was still hurt last season. Then this season, was a bit squirrely.

Lol I bet I could blow his knee out with 1 weak kick. He’s a ticking time bomb . Not even close to his prime.

Well 18/19 Blake is prime Blake, that is, the best version of Blake so far. What hes doing now is close to that. Hes still a legit star, possibly allstar, but not MVP candidate level like he was in 18/19. Crazy how a year ago he looked like he could barely run. I don't buy that he was hiding it all along. He simply took a lot of time to recover.
