In this hypothetical situation pretend that KG never gets injured and as a result the Celtics three-peat against the Lakers from 2008 to 2010.

Where would you now rank Kobe all time as he still would have 3 rings and an Mvp to his name but unfortunately no rings as the main man due to facing the Celtics superteam in the finals every year from 2008 to 2010.

For me personally without his two rings and two finals Mvp's in 2009 and 2010 and especially the one that he got vs the Celtics Kobe would now drop from where he is currently ranked 12th or 11th all-time on my list to now about 22 or 21th all-time on my list.

And on another note where would you rank Kg if he now had a three-peat under his belt from 2008 to 2010 does he now enter the top 12 players of the all-time list on this site and others.

The one player that I think benefits the most from Kobe never winning a ring in his career as the main alpha dog for the Lakers is Shaq as almost everyone would have given him all the more credit for the Lakers three-peat from 2000 to 2002

If Kobe couldn't win a single ring as the alpha dog on his teams then fairly or unfairly the narrative would be he only got three rings because of Shaq, and if Shaq went on to win with Wade, then the narrative that Shaq and "any great wing" would only beat louder.

Those two rings as the main guy are what puts Kobe up there in the top 10 all-time or just outside of it.

probly 15th or so

he was legit playoff mvp in 2001 so there was no question he was that guy. it was inevitable.

if Horry hits 1 shot in the 2003 playoffs he 4 peats and probly wins finals mvp

if Malone wasn't injured and kobes shoulder/knee wasn't messed up in 2004 he probly 5 peats.. if Bynum and Arizona are healthy in 2008 there's another one. if Pau makes a free throw in 2012 there's another one. and if stern never vetos the paul trade there's another 1-2 titles and he never rips his Achilles playing so many minutes cause of nashes health problems.

kobe should realistically be a 10 time champion and 6 or 7 time finals mvp. health and bad luck could only keep him from attaining the illusive finals mvp for so long

Not top 20

His entire career is based on those 2 chips

Those 2 chips were rare feats because they were won with a true 2nd option... And Kobe carried the scoring load for the playoffs and Finals, which only MJ and Hakeem have done more than once

Borderline top 10. Oscar Robertson makes top 10 in a lot of people's lists but kobe was 5 times the player he was.

He wasn't the man in 2009 and 2010 though, Gasol led in PER
