Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen has announced that he is coming out with a book called Unguarded. Pippen: "The Last Dance was really about Michael Jordan than the Chicago Bulls. It was his story. This book is mine." “Pippen details how he cringed at being labelled Jordan’s sidekick, and discusses how he could have (and should have) received more respect from the Bulls’ management and the media,” the “UNGUARDED” description reads. “He discusses what it was like dealing with Jordan on a day-to-day basis, while serving as the real leader within the Bulls locker room.”
“I don’t think it [The Last Dance] was that accurate in terms of really defining what was accomplished in one of the greatest eras of basketball, but also by two of the greatest players – and one could even put that aside and say the greatest team of all time,” Pippen told The Guardian in December 2020.
“I didn’t think those things stood out in the documentary. I thought it was more about Michael trying to uplift himself and to be glorified. I think it also backfired to some degree in that people got a chance to see what kind of personality Michael had,” he explained. Pippen, in the same interview, said he confronted Jordan over his feelings about the documentary. “I told him I wasn’t too pleased with it. He accepted it. He said, ‘Hey, you’re right.’ That was pretty much it,” Pippen recalled.
Ready to hear my side of the story? UNGUARDED. I'm giving you a behind-the-scenes look at growing up in Arkansas, college days at UCA, getting drafted, takes on my teammates and coaches, the locker room, and the rings. Stories I've kept to myself for years. On sale 11.16.21. AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW.

Waiting for a Toni Kukoc book about how Pip sat out a crucial endgame and throw the team under the bus
Also a Robert Horry book about how he had more rings than MJ
Or a book by Chris Childs about how he got Kobe in a 2 hit combo melee

Delusional Pippen. Im NoT a SiDeKiCk! He was even 99 Hakeem & Barkley's sidekick.
MJ doesn't even have to say a word. The Goat, tough direct leader in his playing days, winner like no other and all class since retirement like a true G.
Congratulations to Scottie for having an ego like most people, nothing to see here.

The documentary wasnt that great. U can tell it was a money grab. I hated how the timeline kept jumping all over the place. Thank God i lived through the jordan era but for a kid that’s like 16 now and watching that i know its gotta be confusing, one moment they are talking about jordan in the 96 finals then they go all the way back to jordans rookie year then they go back to the 96 finals then they go to the “last dance”.

For 30 years, we've only received info on the 90s Bulls from Jordan's perspective. And Pippen stayed silent. All the bashing, undermining, unappreciative, flat out disrespectful stances and takes that have been levied against Pippen without a rebuttal from Pippen will hopefully change with this book.
I honestly felt Pippen could take it as long as it was from the media. But after the Last Dance Jordamentuary, which was really nothing more than Jordan stroking his own ego and bashing his teammates, Pip felt it's time to respond.
I've always maintained that Jordan is the GOAT. But some of the rhetoric I've seen from these Jordan clowns is just insane. For example:
1. Jordan made Pippen. The notion that without Jordan, Scottie Pippen would have been nothing more than a Kyle Kuzma like player is dumb. Pippen was the number 5 pick in the draft lottery. He wasnt somebody Jordan found on the street. Before he set foot on an nba floor, he was being called a cross between Magic Johnson and Dennis Rodman. And that's basically what Pippen was.
2. Pippen is somehow a failure because he never won a title without MJ and "only" averaged 22ppg (8th out of 350ish players).
3. The only way Pippen couldve won is with Jordan. But Jordan couldve won with any decent SF. Even though we saw what Pippen did as the leader of the Bulls in 94. The so-called proof is 94, 95, 99, and 00. 94, they lost Jordan and didn't have a chance to sufficiently replace him because he retired weeks before the start of the season. 95? The Bulls lost Horace Grant and didnt replace him. Pippen was underutilized in 99 and he was in his mid 30s and a shell of himself in 00. Every other ATG gets slack for having age and injuries catch up to them but not Pippen.
4. Pippen quit of his team in 94 when he sat out the last 1.8 seconds. But nobody actually considers the whole situation. From the way Krause treated Kukoc, to the fact that the Bulls paid Kukoc more money than Pippen, down to the play BEFORE the play that Pippen sat out when Kukoc kinda sabotaged Pippens chance to get off a good shot because he wouldn't clear out. The. Jackson left him hanging by calling the play for Kukoc.
5. Pippen was dumb for signing that contract in the early 90s. But people forget that Pippens family was poor. He had 2 family members that needed special medical treatment. If he had got hurt, he wouldve been called selfish. And nobody holds Jordan accountable for quiting on the Bulls 3 weeks before the start of the 94 season.
6. Pippen was soft. Even though I can show you more video of violent fouls against Pippen than Jordan. Especially by the Bad Boy Pistons and the Knicks. People knock Pip for having a migraine (which will never cease to amaze me. You are chastising a person for a sickness), but excuse Jordan for quitting on his team in 94 by saying he didn't want to play anymore because his father died. But Pippens father died too. And a month before the infamous migraine game. AND PIPPEN PLAYED THAT GAME. He didnt quit. He had a bad game. Pippen gets no slack.
7. Pippen was a brat. But Jordan actually sabotaged the Bulls when he refused to shoot because his coach told him to look for his team more.
I honestly cant stand Jordan fans they're trolls. And liars.

Another thing I forgot to mention is this notion that Pippen is a bum because he played bad in the 96 and 98 playoff and Finals. Injuries dont matter to Jordan fans. Again, players that are considered far better than Pippen always get a pass for their age and injuries. But not Scottie Pippen.
I said it many time. No other player had the skillset of Scottie Pippen. No player could run your offense, anchor a defense and be the teams best scorer. That's what Pippen did for the Bulls.

^^Good posts. I too think Jordan (or Russell) is the GOAT but you won't ever see me discrediting Pippen. And the stupid Jordan stans don't realize that there is no reason to do it. Everyone needed talent to win let alone establish dominant dynasties. Jordan was no exception.
With that being said, one place I disagree with you are injuries. Injuries aren't an excuse for anyone ever. A player is as good as what they provide on the court.

Are we really getting anything new out of this? Those Bulls were basically the most documented team of all time and its not as if its only Jordan's opinion/views that weve heard.
Almost everyone from the Bulls organization and the Nba has had their say from the owners, gm, coaches, teammates, players, media etc. Add them all up and you could pretty much paint a good picture of what had happened during their run.
His opinion matters but the book would be obviously extremely biased for him just like the Last Dance was for Jordan.

Look at the weasel a few posts up already making excuses for Pippen, who refused to check back into a playoff game. And that's a random ass fan. So just imagine Pippen, who always felt undermined.

The 92' Bulls were expected to walk right through New York in the 2nd Round, but Pippen wet the bed and caused the series to go 7 games.
Anytime a series was close or lost, it was Pippen's bad play that caused it, including the 88' Playoffs, 89' Playoffs, 90' ECF, 92' ECSF, 93' Finals, 94' ECSF, 95' ECSF, 96' Finals, 98' ECF, 97' Finals, 98' Finals..
Pippen was bad in all of these series, which caused a close series or loss.. He averaged 16 on 40% in nearly all of these series.
Pippen was also horrible in many other series like the 93 1st Round, 97' 1st Round, 97' ECF, or 96' ECSF, but Jordan dominated and the Bulls still won easily.

Paul George averaged 22/5/4 on 44% against Denver last year and was ripped to shreds for it... Meanwhile, Pippen's 16 on 40% was routinely winning chips so he's top 30 all-time, smh
If any other star played as badly as Pippen, they would be ripped to shreds like PG3 and not rated that highly - but Pippen was winning 6 chips playing like that, so people ignored it... But obviously, it was MJ's goat play that was managing to win with crap help

Thomas played great offensively but they lost. His ankle effected his defense. Many feel if he wasnt hurt, the Pistons beat the Lakers.

I get your point. It makes perfect sense. All I'm saying is there is a double standard.
Hell even Jordan got excised for his play in 95 because people say he was rusty.
I can go on and on. A poster the other day posted an article talking about Drexler had a bum knee in 92 and how it would've been different if he wasnt playing hurt.
Magic announced it just before the 92 season. Way after the fact. Why would Laker fans use HIV as an excuse? :oldlol: The only people saying that are LeBron fans who throw shade at Jordan's competition. 91 Magic was second in MVP voting and had a great finals. Never heard anyone apologize for the stuff you're talking about.
Thomas was great all-around in G6. He was never blamed or excused. You can bring up random posters all you want, but in the mainstream and media, none of this matters. If you can play no excuses.

Laker fans was using that lame excuse waaaayyyyy before Lebron James even came on the scene. Lol. What are you talking about with regards to an apology?

You cant have a discussion about that 88 Finals without mentioning Thomas ankle injury. Are you serious right now? Show me a retrospective of the 88 Finals that didnt mention Thomas sprained ankle. Stop it bro. By your assertion, his sprained ankle didnt matter because he still continued to play.

Nobody ever said the 91 Lakers lost because of Magic's AIDS. That's absurd. :oldlol: I've heard the injury excuse for Worthy, sure, but never Magic. Again only LeBron fans say that. Apologizing is another way of making excuses. Hence "apologists". Some words are overused lol

Thomas played great that game, so I've never seen it used against him. Or "excused" the way you're framing it. I have heard about the series being rigged. In the Lakers favor - but that's another story.

I think you're missing the point here. I dont see injuries as an excuse. I see it as a reason for not playing up to your normal level. Like age. All I was saying is all these other players failures are blamed on injuries, why not Pippen? That's when you chimed in and said that injuries dont matter if you suit up and play, then your expected to perform at your normal level. This is your argument bro. All I'm showing you is the inconsistency. Now maybe you feel that way with regards to injuries but that's not how the masses feel. Other that the Pippen haters when it comes to Pippen.
Cringe. Op forgot to post this under his Uncle Drew main account.

You can give someone 100 compliments and say 1 negative thing. Seems like Pip taking that one or two negative thing to heart. Sure, Jordan was wrong to roll his eyes at the migraine game - which I think Pippen really suffered from but they did dedicate an entire episode to Pip to glorify how great he was.
The guy even said there would be no Michael Jordan without Scottie Pippen.

No they didn't. That glorification episode did nothing but showed his failures. Other than the job he did on Magic, and even that was more of an afterthought.

Based on what's been leaked, it sounds to me like Pippen is going to show how his leadership contrasted Jordan's. How his being the Yen to Jordan Yang made playing with Jordan tolerable. The last dance showed that Michael Jordan is an asshole. And these are grown men. Not kids. I dont think Jordan led teams get very far with the way he chastised, berated, and even embarrassed them. Like that Horace Grant withhold food story. Pippen had just as much respect as MJ did. And that made dealing with Jordan more tolerable. And thus facilitated the Bulls success.
