View Full Version : Nash could never sniff CP3's jockstrap

CP3 already got a better Suns team than any of Nash's. Probably the best Suns team since 1993.
This is a past prime CP3 too. Nash had stacked rosters with Matrix, Amare, Diaw, Barbosa, Iso Joe etc. so no excuses.
On offense you can say Nash was better but it was at least close or an argument impact or skill wise.
Defensively it's one of the best defensive PGs ever against one of the worst. CP3 is the most complete two-way PG ever and it's not close. It's disrespectful to pretend Nash is on his level.

Nash beat out Shaq and Lebron to win two MVP's. I don't think Chris Paul will be doing anything like that anytime soon.

CP3 faced a Davis-less Lakers in round-1 and Murray-less Nuggets in round-2.
Update us when CP3 is already a 2-time MVP, or even just one.

nash is a great point guard but his downfall was not shooting enough
not that he should have played lebron ball and shot 20 times while still gunning for 10 assists.. but he definitely was a better shooter than his teammates were and sometimes passing to the open guy is actually a worse look than creating for yourself.

So, in other words, in two seasons LeBron had done more than Chris Paul in, what, 15? Big yikes. Don’t get ahead of me blaming injuries now, otherwise you wouldn’t have mentioned the 2019 and 21 Laker seasons. Oh, Chris Paul did lose a 3-1 lead along the way, that’s a big accomplishment.

He actually did shoot it more in the Playoffs, teams like the Spurs forced him to become a volume scorer by playing off him more and he delivered. Suns' downfall was their lack of defense, they just weren't good enough outside of Raja, Diaw and the Matrix. Obviously the Amare injury in '06 and the suspension in '07 ruined their two best chances at winning a championship, but opposing stars had all-time great PO numbers against them.

Not a chance the current suns were better than Nash Amare and Marion Suns. Shit they even had Joe Johnson... that's 4 All Stars.
Nash was a better passer and playmaker tbh, Paul a better defender obviously.
The current suns beat a Lakers team without Anthony Davis and a Nugget team with only 1 all star. They haven't beaten anybody yet.

Imo not a better playmaker outside his d'antoni system, not a better passer, just more flashy and creative passing with all that spacing. Not a better ballhandler. Better shooter though CP can pull up from all positions with more ease and skill.
Also Nash was lucky Kobe decided to send Phil a message in game 7.

Nash led the number 1 offense every year. Suns are good this year but still 5th ranked. As great as Paul is on offense, Nash was better. He made others play above their already star level. Chris Paul is more of an iso player.

No man. Nash without D'antoni and his system would be Dallas Nash. Nash has never been a better point guard than CP3, that's foolish. Not talking about which team is better. Couldn't even protect the ball right with LA. Meanwhile old man cp3 beat the lakers with one arm showing excellent leadership and playmaking.

I would consider both as top 5 pgs all time.
I really wish they had kept that first Nash/Suns team together. After his first year there they traded Joe Johnson. Then Amare got hurt and missed an entire season. Nash got to the WCF with Boris Diaw (who was a bust in Atlanta) as the starting center when Amare was out.

Cp3 didn't beat shit. Devin Booker was the best player in those games. Winning a first round matchup is cute. Nash led teams farther against better competition.
Nash didn't need dantoni... Dantoni needed him. A 50/40/90 shooter who could dime like Magic. Multiple time MVP. Chris Paul hasn't come close to winning even one. If dantoni was so great he wouldnt have sucked with the Knicks. Harden and Nash made his career.

Those media awards were cute, they definitely underperformed with that great team. And what we also know is that D'antonis system is perfect for playmakers and their stats obviously, the style of bball that created this inflated stats era, everything came together with that team, and yes he was a great shooter, but too focused on assists while cp3 did both flawlessly. Chris Duhon and Jeremy Lin looked like superstars for a minute too btw. Imagine CP3 in D'antoni's system playing with those teammates, might have made a finals trip who knows.. but his stats would've went trough the roof for sure. He'd score more too like he already has been doing.
He's just naturally better on both ends, whichever system.

You probably heard someone else say this and thought it sounds nice but in reality have no idea what you're talking about. Do you even know what the "D'Antoni System" is? Chris Paul's ball domination makes up for any advantage Nash got from "D'Antoni System". Nash might be the best leader I've seen in basketball. The way he's able to motivate a team, create camaraderie and get everyone on the same page is amazing. But I do think Chris Paul is the slightly better player.

???? If almost winning isn't even close then what is close?

The Spurs caught huge breaks in 2003 with Dirk being out. Webber got injured in the mavs/kings series before that.
The Spurs got all the calls their way against the Pistons and still barely won.
2007 Amare being suspended after clearing the bench changed the momentum of the series much like Dray in 2016.
Way would the League favor the boring team from a small market like the Spurs?
At the time Stern wanted the NBA to spread worldwide and the Spurs were known for drafting foreign players like Parker and Ginobili.
The Spurs were good but they wouldn't have won 5 chips without some bias. In 1999 and 2014 they would have won regardless.

Ayton is an all star big even if he didn't make the team. That's 3 all stars and Bridges might be one in the future too.
You can say Nash was better offensively. I wouldn't argue much about it. But you can't ignore the other side of the ball. It's a MASSIVE difference. There's a reason Nash's teams were never strong defensively.

Yea Dantoni and nelly ball. Dantoni literally didn't coach or practice defense. Put Nash on a team with thibs or something and he would be able to hide him on defense and let him run wild on offense. He would probably make julius randle look like prime amare in the pick and roll.

Those teams were middle of the back defensively (17th 16th and 13th during Nash's peak 04-07 runs).
People pretend they were bottom of the league for some reason.

That sounds good but middle of the pack means they had one of the worst defenses in the Playoffs every year with no real rim protection, plus they weren't all that great at rebounding either, especially when Amare was out in '06. The total rebounds number looks good but they played at the fastest pace so the numbers are a little inflated.

I still think that at his core, CP3 is a choker. But I always felt he was one of the GOAT floor raisers ever because he was so complete and checked so many boxes. At his peak, he was a legit GOAT tier on the ball defender. It's good to see him have some playoff success.
And yeah, as bball players, CP3 > Nash all day.
