• In my opinion if CP3 wins a ring this year he still has no case over Magic and Curry.
• It would be a stretch to take him over Isiah, Big O and Stockton.
• And depending how you value the 50s and 60s CP3 has no case over Cousy’s resume.
• Nash may not have won a ring but he is a 2x MVP who elevated his team and was the clear leader and most important person on his team. The same cannot be said for Chris Paul in this suns team. Booker in my opinion is the #1 Guy on the team.
• Then there’s Kidd, Iverson and Westbrook who also have a case over CP3.

I guess the biggest knock on Chris Paul is he has never been to the Finals in his career and hypothetically if they win this year you can argue that he is not even the #1 Guy on the roster this season. Although, I do admit that he is a good leader and he can elevate his team mates.

Depends on how he perform but i have to disagree that he's not the #1 guy on the roster. To me he's clearly the #1 guy and by quite a big margin that it's not close at all.

I place him above Stockton if he wins, so second best PG ever.

wait.. how come the raptors ring didn't count because 2 of the warriors big 3 were injured

if the nets go out due to harden and kyries injuries then whoever wins gets an asterisk right?

Top 5 pg all time right now to me, maybe even top 3.

Can't put him over Magic. Never saw Oscar but his numbers were crazy. You could argue for CP3 against anyone else though.

1 ring ,, gets him a top 25-30

Any PG that has MVP for a season out does him IMO
PG position is tough , but a standard has to qualify otherwise a chip and MVP of finals or regular season means nothing in the HOF

I think he's somewhere just behind the Wade and Pippen range AT. Wherever that is, but personally I think it's the top 30 atleast.

I have always leaned high on Chris Paul's ranking and most have him over Wade and Pippen already. His advanced metrics are through the roof but injures have held him back, along with his laundry list of injuries that have plagued him. At Real GM top 100 us panel voters actually had him at 23 all time. These were the results within the range of 21-26:

21. Barkley
22. Durant
23. Paul
24. Curry
25. Pettit
26. Stockton

I don't agree with all of it but the voter panel has spoken. The panel voted Wade at 28 and Pippen at 32 which sounds about right to me.
This was my voter panel write up when voting for the #23 spot (I actually selected Curry over Paul but it was close)

Voting for the #23 spot:

1. Stephen Curry
2. James Harden
3. Chris Paul

1. Stephen Curry is one of those guys that is hard to rank mostly because he doesn't have that Finals MVP yet but everything else he has done is ridiculous. First of all, being able to make it to 5 straight Finals is amazing. We downplay that only because of LeBron's 8 but truthfully they are the only two players to ever make 5 straight Finals since probably 1958 or so? Meanwhile guys are trying to slide in Stockton who only ever made 2 Finals for his whole career and never won a ring either.

Curry making 5 straight Finals alone, that right there is amazing, but his greatness goes even further. He also won 3 of them, while achieving the greatest regular season run in the history of our sport. 73 wins, Unanimous MVP. 30 ppg, off 50/40/90 splits for a full season. He has also has all the three pointer records too: most in a single season, most in the playoffs, and will eventually pass Ray Allen for most all time in the RS, and he has already passed Ray by nearly 100 in playoff 3-pointers. Insane achievements. Curry's offensive gravity is remarkable and yet still easy to give dismiss. But think about this, teams in the playoffs were nearly forced to pick him up as soon as he crossed half court or they were repeatedly sending hard doubles at him. No other perimeter player has faced that type of defensive attention. Anyway, in a nut shell: 2x MVP, 3x Rings, 5x Finals, Only U-MVP in league history, 1st in PO 3-pointers, soon to be 1st in RS 3-pointers as well. I can't put a guy with 2 Finals and zero rings or MVPs above that. Nope, just no way.

2. Harden dropped 36 ppg in the modern era! He also accumulated three scoring titles, an MVP, and an assist title. Very few have won both an assist and scoring title in their NBA career. Not to mention he is an 8x all-star, but the thing holding him back the most is lack of Finals appearances and rings. He only has 1 Finals appearance, although I feel if the next guy below him (CP3) didn't get hurt in 2018 playoffs then Harden most likely wins his first title and possibly the FMVP. I can't count LeBron out completely in 2018 but if Chris Paul doesn't get hurt in 2018 then Harden likely wins his 1st ring (finally). Harden also has 6x all NBA 1st teams (more than some guys voted before him such as: Barkley, Erving, Dirk, KG, Moses, Robinson, Russell, & Curry/Wade/Nash/Pippen [if people are voting them in]).

3. If Chris Paul had some Finals appearances and or a ring he would be pushed to the front with everything else he has done, but unfortunately for him he does not have that missing piece. Chris Paul plays both sides of the ball extremely well but he also does lack a pick of the offensive firepower when compared to the other modern guys ahead of him (KD, Curry, Harden). Plus all of those guys have an MVP and at least 1 Finals appearance still needs an MVP or a Finals appearance/ring to pass Harden but he is obviously close. His 8x 1st team all defense is remarkable. He has also collected: 6x spg leader, 4x apg leader, 6x leader in ast%. He is the real deal.

He would have to do Dirk takeovers whole way through.

Tall task. But if he does it he does it.

Behind Magic, Curry, and probably over Isiah. I don't rate Big O high like most do. From what I've read and watched, his game was too Westbrook-like. Great players but they're stat-stuffers with overrated impact. The opposite of Chris Paul, who also might be the most skilled pointguard. Ever.

Yup I can somewhat agree. The main difference IMO is Dirk led a team full of vets who had tons of experience. Where Paul is leading a gang of young bucks. So yeah their roles are definitely different.

If he plays dominant, and wins Finals MVP? I would only have him ranked behind Magic and Isaiah. Yes, tied at minimum with Steph Curry for number 3 PG of all time.

I've already had CP3 in the top 25 and a top 5 pg ever for quite some time now, a ring would boost his legacy, but it wouldn't be a huge jump for me, maybe enters the top 20.

1) Magic

4) CP3

then it’s a battle for fifth with:

Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Gary Payton, Westbrick, etc?

Big O was actually very efficient for his era, comparing him to Westbrook is a crime. Peak wise many considered Big-O to be a better player than Jerry West at the time, Jerry West in today's league would fit in better, but Oscar Robertson up until the late 80's or early 90's was looked at as arguable the greatest guard to have ever played.

17/18 as it stands right now.he’s better than Barkley/Malone/Robinson/Ewing and for longer.

Could move up to 14/15 with finals mvp or even just playing how he’s been playing without winning the finals mvp (Booker)

10.Durant
11.Garnett
12.Russell
13. Wade
14.Dirk
15.Kawhi(another ship as f.mvp will move ahead of Durant)
16.Curry
17.CP3/
18.Harden(Will move ahead of Wade prob in next 2-3yrs)
19.Malone/Barkley
21Robinson/Ewing
23.Isiah
24.Nash
25.Giannis(keeps playing the same way he’s playing for 3-4 more years he’ll move to top 10-15)
26.Westbrook
27.Lillard(keeps just playing the way he’s playing now 2-3 more years .he’ll move ahead to top 16-18
28.Baylor
29.Iverson
30.Pippen

*Embiid WILL move ahead of Ewing/Robinson/Malone/Barkley if he just continues what he’s doing for 3-4 more years. If he keeps playing the way he is 3-4 more years with 1 finals mvp he’ll be top 10-12...
