View Full Version : The Pelicans are going to waste Zion as they did with AD

They have fired 2 coaches back to back after one season? Do you really think Zion will want to stay there in that unstable environment? The League screwed up up letting NO get that #1 pick as they shouldn’t have given them anything after they wasted 7 years of Davis.

This is giving me flashbacks of the Wolves wasting Kg for basically his entire career with their mismanagement which seriously affected his all-time ranking.

The Pelicans in all honestly unless they fix their front office and roster construction will be a farm franchise for the bigger teams as Zion is going to bail to a bigger market just as AD did if things don't quickly improve in New Orleans.

Hiring David Griffin who was a Lebron Puppet to be the Gm for Zion was a massive mistake by the Pelicans ownership.

Hiring SVG was laughable by the Pelicans.

As the dude should have stayed retired after Detroit as it is clear that the game has surpassed him.
He'll cash checks as long as there's a sucker to hire him. I would, too.

But who honestly would when he can cash checks as long as there's a sucker to hire him.

Van Gundy was a polar opposite from previous coach Alvin Gentry. Van Gundy emphasized defense, became visibly upset any time the Pelicans turned the ball over on fast breaks, and was more concerned with Xs and Os minutiae than personal relationships. Many players did not adapt well to such an abrupt change.

“It was definitely different,” reserve wing Josh Hart said. “It wasn’t the easiest transition.”

Van Gundy’s relationship with All-Star forward Brandon Ingram was strained for a majority of the season, multiple sources said.

Asked directly in May about how they had coexisted, Ingram said: “It’s OK. This is our first year together. He has a different coaching style that I’m used to seeing from most. But I was able to learn a lot of things from him this year and learn what he’s all about.”

Honestly, they need to trade Ingram. You can't win with low character guys like that. You don't want that to be contagious to other guys on the team, Zion for example.

Pels need to go for someone new like Becky Hammon or Chauncey Billups IMO.

Zion wasted himself. He got the same meniscus removal that wade got except hes like 50 lbs heavier. Hes clearly less explosive and nimble than in duke

Well the SVG situation is now over.

Urgh I hate this outlook.

First of all, Zion is not necessary entitled to anything.
Hes also very early in his career.

The Pelicans have actually surrounded him with some really nice pieces, and they have accepted they made the wrong coach move and they're trying to fix it.

There's so much time for it all to come together with the Pelicans....

So at this stage, I respectfully disagree with the OP

We are not really putting up high hopes on a Julius Randle type of player...
If anything, it is Ingram getting wasted.

https://medium.com/@michaeld830/a-look-into-zion-williamsons-knee-surgery-and-what-it-means-for-his-career-c2ee13da59c0

According to MD Brian Sutterer, partial removal — like Williamson’s operation— alters the biomechanical load bearing of the knee, which may result in early signs of arthritis [8]. For a lateral meniscus tear, concern centers on alignment of the knees and corresponding force distribution. Williamson’s odd gait — his manner of walking — has been previously scrutinized. Side-to-side movement of his upper trunk resembles a trendelenburg gait, a manner of walking associated with hip pathology [8]. In addition, Williamson also displays signs of dynamic knee valgus, or inward knee bend during normal walking that raises concern for the stability of his lower limbs. His history of knee injuries is alarming in the past year alone. A Grade 1 right knee sprain sidelined him three weeks at Duke, and a bruised left knee saw him miss the entire NBA summer league after only 9 minutes.

Honestly in this age where teaming up with other guys and leaving bad situations is kinda accepted, i can see zion leaving at his first chance out. Players realize when they arent on a program thats going to set them up win faster than previous generations now. For guys who didnt like lebron or Kd's moves, unfortunately i see alot more of that in the future with young stars on teams wasting their potential.

Parting ways with Stan Van Gundy after just one season is not the biggest problem facing the New Orleans Pelicans. They have been unable to put together the right elements to make rising star Zion Williamson and his family happy, and multiple sources have told The Athletic that certain family members want Williamson on another team.

The Pels will also look to see if they can trade either Eric Bledsoe, Steven Adams or both. The two aging vets will tie up $35 million in cap space next season.

This is probably the earliest I’ve heard a player of his calibre have this type of news come out.

Apparently, no superstars want to play in New Orleans

At this rate, every small market team may as well close its doors

The entitlement of these people irks me so much though.
This guy has been injured and hardly set NO on fire...there's also worse lists than theirs.

He'd better watch out though...the basketball gods will find it quite easy to strike this unit down...easy to zap those knees

David Griffin the Pelicans GM has been abysmal thus far.

He started off his tenure with Zion and the haul from the Lakers through the AD trade.

Trading down from 4 to 8 and 17, essentially swapping De'Andre Hunter for Jaxson Hayes and NAW looks weak right now.

Signed Redick which backfired on him almost instantly.

Made SVG coach who was clearly not the right fit for this team

Traded Jrue for a haul of picks, but those picks are so far in the future and he took back Bledsoe, who is a terrible fit with Zion, took back Adams, who is a terrible fit with Zion and gave Adams a massive extension for no particular reason.

There is a reason for Zion not to trust the organization thus far, especially considering their history.
Griff was handed a silver platter. 2 years in, it looks pretty meh

This is AD’s fault.
This is Rich Paul’s fault
The Lakers are tampering
This is Zion’s fault

Notice a trend here New Orleans? 3 coaches in 3 years. An ownership group that cares only about its football team and treats the Pelicans as an afterthought.

The roster David Griffin constructed this year was an absolute travesty. How a team in 2021 felt it a good idea to have zero floor spacing is beyond me. But once again people will blame everyone else but the organization for its inability to put a quality roster around its stars. It’s their fault they quickly pick up on the nonsense that is going on there.

If Zio sets a precedent of taking the QO instead of the max in his quest to leave NO. I think we’re probably looking at another lockout. As I can’t see small market owners accepting that as the new normal. It would effectively destroy the only advantage small/mid-market teams have at keeping talent.

lamo, Zion is gonna leave pelicans.

He already signed big contract with Nike, therefore hes gonna take QO and jump ship to NYC right away.

That would be great as Zion deserves to play in a big market such as LA or New york.

Why does he deserve it?
He's under-achieved so far.

Why do big market teams deserve a player more than small market teams?

Why don't we just get rid of all the small market teams and make that the NBA2?

Your outlook promotes an uneven, shit league.

It also rewards entitled pvssies

Ingram actually had a great year, expanded his game and became a better 3 point shooter.

Zion can dunk and layup, he’s a crapper version of gianus so far. With a non retarded coach and some better pieces around them this duo should easily be able to make the playoffs..
