View Full Version : Kevin Durant is the biggest benefactor of opponent injuries in the history of the NBA

Asides from taking the "hardest road" by joining the winningest team in history with a two-time MVP in his prime, Kevin Durant also got the "hardest road" in terms of the basketball gods striking down his main competitors along the way.

In 2017's playoff game 1 between Warriors and Spurs (arguably the second best team in the NBA with a prime Kawhi), Spurs were up 20 points before Zaza injured Kawhi, resulting in the Spurs losing their best place for the entire series. Without this series, it would of been highly possible that the Spurs would of knocked out the Warriors. Resulting in 1 less ring for Durant.

In 2018's series between Warriors and Rockets, the Rockets were up 3-2 heading to their homecourt where Chris Paul (1B on the team) got injured and had to miss game 6 and 7. If Chris Paul hadn't been injured, it would of been more likely than not that the Rockets would have knocked out the Warriors. Resulting in another lost ring for Durant.

Now in 2021, Durant's main competitors are AGAIN injured. The best team in the league (Lakers) lost their second best player, and the arguably second best team in the NBA (Clippers) just lost their best player (Kawhi). This is setting up Durant for another easy ring where his biggest roadblocks to winning is cleared by injuries.

Yet his team is injured and he missed out on a ring because he tore his Achilles. Not to mention the several injuries his teammates had in OKC during playoffs

The other years you mentioned they win those series regardless and it's pretty much unanimously agreed upon

This might be the worst thread in ISH history :oldlol: kill yourself

Errrrrr... Didn't we have a season where The Clippers beat the Spurs, then CP3 was injured, they lost to the Rockets, then Harden or someone was injured... Then GSW played the Cavs in the Finals and Kyrie and Love were injured?

High IQ thread right there. The funny thing is, though all of his rings put together aint worth a penny, he probably a better bball player than Mike Fraudan

well let's see

2007 shaqs injury
2011 shaqs injury
2012 roses injury
2013 kobe and rose injury
2014 rose injury
2015 Paul George injury
2016 curry, iggy, boguts injuries
2017 Isaiah Thomas injury
2018 kyrie injury
2020 Durants injury

seems to me the biggest benefactor of other injured stars has been lebron james

Rose injury in 2012 changed everything for Lebron. Otherwise the Bulls and Heat are battling like Sixers/Celtics in the early 80's.

Durants teammates are also injured Kyrie and harden taking turns sitting out. That evens things out against a Buck team that has zero injuries.

The Spurs weren’t beating the Warriors in 2017 lmao. One game doesn’t mean shit. The Rockets would have won in 2018 though if CP3 stayed healthy.

You call him the biggest beneficiary of injuries in the history of the game . . . when he arguably isn't even a beneficiary overall.

You cited literally only three years—one of which, 2017, is moot because the Warriors weren't losing anyway, and another one that is still incomplete. 2018 is the only plausible example, and even that isn't so conclusive; people forget that CP3 shot poorly himself in the 2018 WCF.

Plus, as others have mentioned, he's been victimized by injuries just as often as, if not more than, he's benefited from them: 2013, 2015, and 2019. As we speak, his team's injuries might even cost him this year against the full-strength Bucks, who might not even be his biggest threat against winning it all.

Discredit him for his superteaming all you want, but it makes little sense to asterisk him out of all superstars for oppositional injuries.

91 - Worthy and Scott injured
92 - Drexler injured
93 - KJ injured
96 - Grant injured
