The Celtics are trading Kemba Walker, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 draft and a 2025 second-round draft pick to Oklahoma City for Al Horford, Moses Brown and a 2023 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

this only makes sense if Walker is or will never be 100%.
damaged goods for old goods is a wash , probably in salary.
(Why give up a draft pick is pure stupidity)

Looks like it sheds roughly 20 million dollars for Boston. That gives them some flexibility with Tatum, and Brown.

Great trade for Boston. Horford is still a quality player -- he fits really well with the Celtics. Gives them an extra 10m, which helps elsewhere. Maybe they'll secure Fournier with that money?

Either way, Al makes them a better team than Kemba would. Solidifies that big rotation with someone who can shoot, pass, and defend. The type of guy who can play in the postseason. The type of guy who can play late in games. The type of guy who can anchor a small-ball lineup.

Look for Boston to have a rebound season with Terry Stotts/Rick Carlisle.

Horford just got a year of rest. He might come back next year with a lot in the tank.

Why do most people continue to evaluate trades like they are just about getting better on the court with one move? This trade by Boston was done to shed salary. They are simply saying that Kemba doesn't matter a ton for them and they'd rather have Horford and more cap flexibility. This just isn't a hard concept to understand.

Now, they could be wrong, but the way people here and on Twitter talk is just hilariously ignorant of the goal of moves like this.

Still waiting for your take. It’s ok though, I know you just talk out of your ass and can’t have a back and forth with someone.

It’s a great trade for Boston.

Good trade for Boston. I always felt kemba was one of the 3 most overrated players in the NBA - he is an average player. Boston found out the hard way by offering that completely average player a max deal.

I don't get the obsession over Al Horford, he's washed at this point. They did need a pick and roll defender and did need to move Kemba but this comes off as desperate.

They save about 20m over 3 years to dumb a worthless player

I didn't know you could make trades during the playoffs. but anyway I would say kembas overrated but he's more valuable than horford at this current stage

what is he like 36?

Kemba can’t defend is an injury prone short player that relies on athleticism. That’s the worst contract in the league

AirBonner
06-18-2021, 02:47 PM
most of the nba can't defend. I think its more of a problem with brown and smart needing more touches.. kembas good at what he does. he just demands too many shots to be happy and doesn't fit. he would be good on another team that needs someone like him. and right now horford might actually fit better. but fir how long? 1 or 2 seasons.. Tatum is like 23. they should be building for the future
Celtics have needed high iq vets for a while. Moses Brown is intriguing while being young. Our center position is much more solidified now

This deal was about shedding salary and getting out from under Kemba’s dumbass deal at the cost of a #16 pick and Horford. His salary actually goes down $500k/year until his free agency and that last year will be a nice, tradable expiring deal.

Last thing this team needs is more mid-1st rounders and Kemba’s injured ass.

He’s got arthritis in his knee and that’s public info. I can’t see why any team would want that at the money he’s making

First reports I read was that they could waive Horford before the season started. They would save $12 mil more if they did. Stevens welcomed him back but that doesn’t mean he’ll start the season there.

Don't think it's a bad trade for Boston and Steven's knows the roster well. Gotta wonder what OKC will do with all those first round picks, You can't keep 3-4 rookies every season

Always love to read the replies and reactions to a trade.

Take the reactions of the herd and go the other way; typically you have a preview of how things turn out. It’s amazing. Whatever the 90% of you vaccinated sheep believe give me the other side of on every issue.

Sage words. You guys think this trade stunk for the Celtics? I have zero doubts they did fine
