View Full Version : Kawhi has a weak legacy as the man

Great playoff player for sure, but nothing noteworthy at all for his regular season. He has yet to win a ring as a star level player either that is legit. We know he was a VERY good role player in 2014, and in 2019 only won because of injuries to the Warriors.
Now this year, he goes out due to injury and the Clippers play better without him and beats the number 1 seed two games in a row...
Kawhi at his prime/peak is an excellent playoff player, but he's still far below the likes of Bron, Bird, KD, Dr. J, etc.
He was 2-2 against the jazz while pg13 was 2-0. Also he choked a 3-1 lead and needed 7 games vs tingis pingis

True.
Defs still a role player in 2014.
No way he beats a healthy Warriors team 2019...not a chance

Again, not criticizing his skill/talent...
But just really has no legacy to speak of. Also he's a terrible leader and weird AF honestly off the court. He'll literally never be heard from or thought of when he retires.

It's really his weirdness and quietness that let's him get off the hook for being a fvcking snake tbh
And also the lack of care people have is also why he doesn't really get criticised too badly when he fails.

He has led 7 different top 3 SRS teams in VORP during the reg season.
Led 5 different teams in VORP to the conference finals
Won 2 finals MVPS
All before age 30. Not sure why you keep craving more from him like a cocaine addict. Of course he's the man. Paul George told Rachael Nichols that kawhi is better then him, Reggie Jackson and Lowry said kawhi is the leader and so on.

The last two years have been kinda rough for him, the infamous 3-1 collapse/Game 7 choke last year, the Raptors winning at a 60 win pace without him last year, then the Clippers balling out to win this last series without him
The only thing I disagree with is that I think he and Durant are essentially equals peak for peak, the Warriors won like 6 games in a row without him in 2019 and Kawhi's 2019 title is def more impressive than either of Durant's

VORP guys VORP
BTW 2014 these were his stats (because the stan in here didn't know who he was black then)
Reg season - 12ppg 2 assists 6 rebounds
Playoffs - 14ppg 1.7 assists 6 rebounds.
A TRUE LEADER OF THE TEAM
This guys shits on Duncan but near 40yo Duncan had better stats in all these categories both in reg season AND playoffs in the same season
So gtfo here hahahahha

Peak Kawhi is on all their levels. Take the blinders off. :oldlol: LeBron doesn't get extra credit for teamhopping and statchasing. It would be a BAD look if PG made the finals without Kawhi, but anything short of that dont make Kawhi a worse player. Literally dominated Dallas last series, but now that he's injured he aint shit. Stop the cap.

What about my OP is cap? I said Kawhi is a very good playoff player, but he really just doesn't have any legacy or meaningful rings. 99% of NBA fans don't care about him at all and he'll be completely forgotten once he retires.

He has a HOF resume. A solid legacy.
But if we up the standard to the true elites of the game, then I would have to agree that his resume is weak compared to the top-5 SF of all time. Right now he sits somewhere 9th-10th.

Leonard became over rated after hitting an absolute fluke buzzer beater that bounced off the rim like 5 times before going in. He's good though.

Every word. If Durant and LeBron's rings are "legit" then so are Kawhi's. Nobody cares what you think his perception will be. Kawhi is still going down as an ATG. You better hope he doesn't come back these playoffs either. Your thread will age like milk.

Kawhi won a role player ring in 2014 and won a second ring due to the KD and Klay getting injured. Literally everyone knows this lol.

You could just as easily argue Durant won his rings joining a 73 win team

LeBron won lockout and bubble rings. Won another ring where players were either injured, or suspended. And KD won his on a 73-win Warriors team.
Don't pretend we don't know that either.

KD has weak rings but they are easily better than Kawhi's.
KD put up 35/8/5 and 29/11/7.5 against Lebron James himself. There was no doubt he deserved his FMVPs as a superstar and best player on the Warriors.

Even with the Warriors injuries Kawhi put in work against Philly and Milwaukee in the playoffs. Durant of course was great but he won those titles on absolute easy mode. Kawhi's 2019 ring imo is much more impressive than either of Durant's. Obv Kawhi's 2014 isn't even in the discussion :lol

The whole point of Kawhi's 2019 ring being lame AF is because Durant and Klay were injured and didn't play. How hard is that to understand? Durant was the best player in the league in 2019 because blowing his achilles.
Warriors clearly beat Kawhi and those Raptors if KD/Klay are healthy, so Kawhi wouldn't even have a second ring.
I'm not saying Kawhi isn't a good player, just that he's never had a legit end-to-end playoff run that ends in a chip/FMVP against healthy teams/best players in the league.

Durant's rings are still much lamer to me, injuries happen, and Kawhi and the Raps still had to struggle to even reach the Finals. The Warriors won those titles almost unchallenged. Plus you rag on Kawhi's ring for injuries when CP3 got injured in 2018 :lol

Actually go and watch his regular season highlights and say that. I remember so many good games from him.
Dynasty stopper but that hbk dimwit has done so much to destroy his name here.
I feel that that label along with "Giant killer" are overstated. The truth is that starting in the 80's, most teams or dynasties fall off after 3-4 consecutive finals runs, whether due to age, fatigue, or injury. Bird's Celtics, Magic's Lakers, and the Bad Boy Pistons all did. MJ retired after 3 consecutive finals. Shaq and Kobe Lakers lost after three consecutive finals. By the time the Spurs defeated the Heat in 2014, the Heat were in their 4th consecutive finals, and their 2nd best player in Wade was injured and a shell of his former self. By the time Kawhi won with the Raptors in 2019, the Warriors were on their 5th consecutive finals and players were injured.
Respect to Kawhi for playing well during the 2019 playoffs as a whole, and his titles are as legitimate as anyone else's, but I view his title legacy more as "vulture championships" picking the carcass of nearly dead teams than being "dynasty stopper" championships.
