“I am about 95 percent sure my FIBA career is over,” Duncan said, using the acronym for the sport’s international governing body. “I’ll try not to share my experiences with anyone.” That's the reason he no longer played in the International Competitions.

He also hated it when he was getting triple teamed when teams were playing zone defense, and Duncan was getting some phantom balls because in Tim Duncan's point of view FIBA referees hated the Americans.

I think Duncan was literally scared of Robert Duenas after Duenas scored a couple of offensive put back against TD

Duenas looks like he should have been a WWE Superstar.

It always surprises me when players wanna spend their offseason playing more basketball. I think Id prefer to have the time off than do more traveling and practicing. But to each their own.

NBA stars make money playing in the offseason. Usually, way more that what their NBA contract pays. Nike, Adidas, whoever else has that player signed to a shoe contract, they want to see their guy up on the international stage and showing off their kicks. If you're a superstar, your shoe deal pays you way more than your NBA contract, and if your shoe company offers you even more money to go play FIBA or the Olympics... you take the money.

No you don’t make “way more money” than your contract
w your shoe deal. There was a time when that was true but that ended a long time ago.

Here’s this year’s highest paid list

Duncan was the worst USA team captain ever. Was MVP in his prime and lost.

and some people actually have Duncan over kobe

one guy got totally shook of a new situation with the weight of the world on their shoulders. the other guy embraced it and showed the young guys how to win

Duncan is a product of popovich and his system. he needs everything to be perfect around him with pampered soft nba rules where nobody really tries to hurt each other

international play is a different type of monster. those games were physical and intense like blood thirsty sh*t. I remember kobe on a break away dunk getting the entire Spain bench up flipping out cause he might have gotten away with a step... ON AN OPEN DUNK

plus Duncan couldn't hide behind a real center and take on a softer less physical defender. he wanted no part of USA basketball after that bronze medal

I will agree that Kobe > Duncan.

Duncan was the best player in 2004 and embarrassed USA.
