NBA and FIBA Rules. The dude sucks. I think he averaged 0.7 ppg in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. And 1.3 ppg in the euroleague.

He probably is yeah. Or if he’s not he’s close. Certainly the worst pick in the modern era. Still, he can always say he was an NBA player so that’s something.

He was bad.

The one mitigating factor is that picks 2-9 were all basically mediocre role players at best, so the opportunity cost wasn't that awful.

LaRue Martin held the crown for many decades

It was an absolutely terrible draft. I remember the lead-up to it being weird. Wasn't Nerlens Noel the consensus #1 for a while? And wasn't there a lot of Shabazz Muhammad buzz?

If you're picking 4 and you're going to draft Cody Zeller, what do you think the chances of being proud of that pick 5 years later are? 2%?

If Giannis is 3 inches shorter, that draft might be the worst in the modern era. I shouldn't say things like that though, because every time I do there's always one even more horrific...

How many players significantly better than Reggie Bullock were in that draft?

that whole draft year was trash but yeah, bennett is up there

didnt he go like 30 games before scoring in double digits :oldlol: the longest ever by a long shot for any #1 pick :oldlol:

out of damn 60 picks in 13' draft giannis was the only good player, gobert is in there as well but thats it. for 60 player picks damn what a shitty draft

Noel, Victor, Otto, CJ? Bennett was top 8 projected. Giannis at 15th not much more of a reach tbh

But.... but..... he was such great trade bait!!!

It almost feels like he never played in the NBA. I don’t even know how to shit on him. I don’t know how he sucked or anything. I at least know Kwame Brown had Mickey Mouse hands and Darko had groupies collecting his condoms, but Bennet was just a fat unknown dud.

God Cleveland stinks.

Oladipo
CJ Mccolum
Otto Portet
Giannis
Gobert

bench
Hardaway J
Bullock
KCP
Adams

this team is contender for the title in say 2018. So not an all time terrible draft.

For an entire draft? How many worse years have there ever been? It's pretty and up there with the worst draft classes ever.

2000 and 2006 were pretty bad. I'd say 2013 would be the worst but since it has a multiple MVP winner, I'd go with 2000 as the worst and 2006 neck and neck with 2013

2015 has been pretty underwhelming so far too, although currently booker is saving some of its reputation.

its amazing how Cleveland wasted all these top picks they've coincidentally accumulated

Did we ever figure out why he went number one? Like i dont even remember him in college. How did his draft stock rise so quick? Was he highly touted in high school but went to a bad college and was he injured in college? Like i still never understood how a seemingly “nobody” went number 1 in an NBA draft

Here's an article I found that has an excerpt from "The Blueprint" but tbh it didn't really clear up a lot of the "why" for me.

https://theathletic.com/135466/2017/10/24/the-blueprint-how-anthony-bennett-became-the-no-1-pick-of-the-2013-nba-draft/

For example, it says Cleveland thought that he could eventually play the 3, which in retrospect seems really insane.

Notice how the phrase franchise player was never used. There were never any comparisons to other All-Star-*caliber players, which is customary with this sort of pick. Brown was high on Bennett because UNLV was recruiting his son Elijah. Brown watched the Rebels play on several occasions and walked away impressed, believing Bennett could evolve into a small forward in the NBA. The pick, however, was a disaster.

He couldn't even make one basket. And you can't tell me he's 6'8". He looks much shorter.

The thing is, I remember reading on reddit, realgm and here while this was going on and even at the time everyone was like "WTF are the Cavs doing?". So it's not like it's hindsight or anything.

dude wasn't good enough to ride the bench on the euroleague level, how this guy went number 1 is beyond me, even in that weak class.
