These two teams battled in the finas for two straight years. However, their rivalry is overlooked when talking about NBA history. I would like to know more about them. Who were the main players in the Bullets, apart from their twin towers Elvin Hayes and Wes Unseld? Who was in their backcourt? And what about the Sonics? They had Dennis Johnson and Gus Williams? What players went head-to-head with the intimadating Bullets' frontcourt?

Bobby Dandridge was the Bullets 3. Good skills averaged 20 ppg shooting 50% from the field which wasn't common back then. Kevin Grevey and Phil Chanier were good scorers at the 2. Mitch Kupchak who was the Lakers GM recently came off the bench. Greg Ballard was their young guy who would later become one of their best players in the early 80s.
Seattle had a unique big man Jack Sikma. He had an unusual offensive game. He would hold the ball over his head like he was going to pass then go into his shot. They had downtown Freddie Brown off the bench. He was taking long range jumpers before the 3 pt line. Their other big was named Webster, long rangy defender. Paul Silas was on that team.

Thanks, great answer. Actually, I have heard of Sickma and "Downtown" Freddie Brown. However, I have no idea who the Bullets guys were at all. Even Bobby Dandridge, who seems to have been a very good player.

Sikma just made the Hall of Fame.
Dandridge has been up for induction a few times. I think he actually was inducted this season but not sure.
Sonics were the young team. Gus, DJ and Sikma all have 3 years or experience or less in the league.
Bullets were the veteran squad. Wes, Hayes and Bob had been in the league 10 years or more.

The most entertaining team was Philly, but they couldn't get serious for big games until Moses came along for '83
Walton's Blazers were on route to mopping up a second NBA title in 1978, they played the game so perfectly.... and then he got hurt....
Big E was the most boring load of a superstar to cheer for, we came close to Dr J and Ice in a final but it never happened
Seattle had a 3-guard rotation with Gus, Downtown and DJ (like the Havlicek C's and Bad Boys for other 3-guard titles)
Paul Silas was fierce on the boards as he was in Boston
that's all i can drum up, it was second-rate action those 2 finals with Walton out and DrJ and Ice failing to win key playoff games when they mattered :(
