might sound cliché, but no question one of his very best games, and probably his best against the Hawks despite their playoff duels with Wilkins, McHale had set a Celtics record by scoring 56 points in a game 9 days earlier against the rising Detroit Pistons, so I suppose Bird wanted to set the record straight on who led the team

the game was played in New Orleans, can't recall which network caught the game, but TNT out of Atlanta had minted a deal at the start of the 1982-83 season, coinciding with the pro debut of their franchise player Wilkins, to broadcast as a pay cable network available for a fee nationally, similar to the former USA Network, for most Hawks games, so if it was TNT, then all of the U.S. state of Georgia saw for free on public TV, and some around the nation had it as a cable option

some things about the game - Bird was gold from mid-range hitting all sorts of fallaways, even a few fadeaways, all to the desperation of the Hawk defense, and perhaps most notably, scored 19 in the third WITHOUT A FOUL SHOT, scoring 19 in the third is hard for anyone since they come out of halftime a bit stale, but to do it without the aid of unguarded shots is unheard of, and scoring 19 in any quarter without a free throw is unheard of

Bird also scored the C's last 16 points to close out the win
