He is one of the best NBA coaches of all time. But he struggled in the Fiba rules. Here are his fiba accomplishments while being a part of the coaching staff of Team USA. 2003 fiba americas gold, bronze medalist 2004 Olympics, 2006 fiba world bronze medalist and 7th place in the 2019 Fiba World.

Yes he will he was lucky to get KD on board I did not think he would come along with his recent injury but he is up for the grueling challenge

They are really training harder for the Olympics.

KD is the most dominant NBA player in FIBA comp by far. He always lights those nikkas up badly and dominates. Pop has been begging to coach him for years now so no excuses.

Part of the reason Pop struggles is that he adapts the same international principles.

So when it's time to play the world, the teams over in Europe know what's up.

That's my half-baked theory anyway :lol Pop hasn't coached the best rosters either. 2006 is probably one of the few legit upsets. That team had Prime Wade and a surging Lebron. Brand and Melo too, with perimeter defenders like Kirk and Battier. It was FIBA but they still should have won.

I dont really see the nba losing another international competition for a while. at least not as long as they use nba players. the league is now more of a euro style shooting/passing/below the rim game so they won't be sending a bunch of super athletes with zero balance offensively anymore like they did in 2004

2006 however is an anomaly. they had balance. but they also had lebron and at the time that meant a guaranteed choke job

LeBron averaged more points than Kobe in international competitions. Greece beating Team USA was a fluke. The shooters got hot from the 3 points line. Team USA got their revenged on Argentina in the Battle for 3rd.

come on bro you've been around long enough to know that kobes primary job was shutting down the other teams best player. his scoring was a bonus. he didnt really turn it on till the gold medal game when lebron shat taco sauce all over his rainbow colored american flag diaper

and it wasn't a fluke when the united states lost. they had no chemistry or leadership. zero spacing. a bunch of low IQ young cats all not understanding what it takes to win yet. that's why the culture changed when kobe and Kidd got there

That Greece team was phenomenal(despite having zero NBA players).
They had won a very hard fought Eurobasket a year before where they had executed in the clutch in very close, physical games.
They played a revolutionary brand of bball at the time with their two big point guards Diamantidis and Papaloukas.
They had size on every position and very skilled high IQ bruiser bigmen that made the Team USA hurt for trying to play physical with them.
3 euroleague MVPs on that team, they went 12 men deep, extremely well coached, they werent afraid of the NBA guys at all and bullied them both physically and mentally, withought giving them any breathing room whatsoever and beat that USA team quite comfortably.
If any team could beat a stacked Dream Team type US squad it would have been those guys.
Had that generation of players been born in the late 90s half that greek roster would have been in the NBA.

He is a very unlucky coach in fiba competitions. Looking at Team USA lineup they sent their Team B.

What's your take on it?

Shades of 2006?

He's got a decent roster now, so there shouldn't be an excuse.

Looks like Team USA aren't even a top 3 team in the Olympics. I read that they aren't allow to replace some players because they already submitted their lineup.

Looking the roster over, the US sent big names. But their size or lack thereof might give them an issue.

Also saw Booker's name. Wondering if he's still committed to playing. Either way, the talent is there and they're expected to win GOLD.
