Like even people that don't like or don't watch basketball whatsoever could still tell you who the following were since 1990... Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, LeBron James... probably Kobe also because of the LA market and his name being so unique.

I don't see anyone in the pipeline? Who's out there? Who's going to be that big of a name? Zion has the physical gifts but it doesn't look like he's got the game to ever achieve that status or anywhere close to it.

Hopefully someone is ready to take the reins but it doesn't appear so. I would think statistically speaking that we were about due.

I think it might be Luka.

Maybe.

We're going to know soon enough but I'm not so sure. I personally lean towards a hard no but I could be wrong. He'd have to get a really stacked team and blow up even further than he is for that to be the case. I don't think he has it in him to be bigger than basketball.

Just out of curiosity after making this thread... I messaged one of my best friends that doesn't know the NBA at all.

I asked them to name all the NBA players they could since 1990...

"Michael Jordon only because of space jam" "Shaq" "Colby - the guy who died" "LeBron"

Just as I thought... I then gave them this list...

Klay Thompson
Devin Booker
Zion Williamson
James Harden
Stephen Curry
Kevin Durant
Anthony Davis
Kawhi Leonard
Paul George
Chris Paul
Damian Lillard
Kyrie Irving

They didn't know any of them. "Stephen Curry I think" and that was it.

This person was born in like 1994.

Also one of the comments made was "and also only because of commercials."

Reporting news says the NBA is losing viewership over the years for so many reasons as we know people in society have many many more choices so we will never see a mega tv show like Friends ratings or Seinfeld ratings ever again, I dont think it can happen. So many platforms and entertainment fighting for the same sets of eyeballs these days will diminish most ratings for entertainment that is 75 years old. I bet tik tok videos can get more viewership than the NBA finals these days. Then we have excellent choices on Netflix originals, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Video, you name it
