They simply don't seem to be able to defend against the aussies high paced motion offense. As I recall, that was also the problem for the US in the world cups.

I think USA is approaching this like preseason since it does not affect seeding and they have a lot of players played together before. The didn't run many sets for players I imagine they will do that in the Olympics. The defensive effort is inexcuseable even for exibition games.

We've been so close a few times. I will be a bit disappointing if we don't.

It's not just defense though. Yes they're struggling to gaurd the motion offense but they're also struggling to score due to international rules being so much different than the nba. These rules allow teams to be much more aggressive defensively. They can do simple things that you can no longer do in the nba like fight through screens, hand check and contest shots. They also don't reward flopping as much. Dame, kd and beal all shoot about 7 or 8 free throws a game. They're shooting less than half that in international play. In the last 2 games the usa is averaging around 85 pts. Compare that to the usa average score in the Olympics of around 115 pts. Thats 30 pts difference which is huge.

It's just gonna take some adjusting. For the last few years these guys have been used to the nba rules where u can just come off screens unguarded or they can just run a basic pic and role that can't be defended because of the rules. That shit ain't gonna work against real defenses.
