I don’t think a head coach job is just drawing plays, or making the right substitutions or yelling at players from the bench. I seen enough ‘behind the scenes’ nba documentaries to know that coaches are also public relation managers that have to address the media every night and constantly make excuses for the players. They are also expected to be psychiatrists to multimillionaire head cases, they are supposed to mentors to a roster full of rambunctious idiots. They also have to make hotel arrangements, dining arrangements and provide logistics for a traveling team, and make sure the nutrition is ok. And when you win a chip you get little credit, but your team loses 4 in a row you’re fired.

I think keeping the respect of players is a tough part too, especially in the NBA and especially if you aren't winning much.. It's tough to coach guys if they think you're a bitch, so the best NBA coaches have a certain high-level about them, a gravitas that commands respect.
