View Full Version : Is there an argument for 2016 LeBron being better than 2013 Bron?

I just watched his playoff performances in both years, and in 2016 he had so much better feel for the game. His ability to control the pace of a game was unparalleled. He obviously lost a little bit of athleticism particularly his quickness, but he looked more skilled in 2016 and his mental toughness was clearly superior.

Although in 2013 his defence was top-notch and his efficiency was ridiculous, but during the Finals, he wasn't as confident as he was in 2016. What are your thoughts?

One could make a great case that Lebron peaked defensively as a player in the 2016 playoffs.

Here is the stats about Lebron's defence in the 2016 playoffs:

Overall: 31.9 DFG%, opponents usually shoot 45.9%, -14.0%
Threes: 24.1 DFG%, opponents usually shoot 36.7%, -12. 6%
Twos: 36.6 DFG%, opponents usually shoot 50.5%, -13.9%
<6ft: 37.9 DFG%, opponents usually shoot 61.3%, -23.5%

LeBron's defence in the 2016 finals:

Overall: 31.6 DFG%, opponents usually shoot 47.9%, -16.3%
Threes: 29.0 DFG%, opponents usually shoot 39.6%, -10.6%
Twos: 33.3 DFG%, opponents usually shoot 53.6%, -20.3%
<6ft: 38.5 DFG%, opponents usually shoot 63.6%, -25.1%

2013 he was an elite man defender.
2016 he played more free safety and was an elite help defender.
His overall confidence in 2016 was much higher.

Nah I take 2013 Bron over 2016 Bron...But I take 2017 and 2018 Bron over 13 and 16.

That testicle drape over Draymond is honestly the GOAT play of any finals.

Knowing Draymond was 1 tech away from suspension.

Don't get the logic behind 18 LeBron > all versions. :confusedshrug: Clearly he was great on offense, and statistically dominant. But how's that any different than Curry or Magic? Same dudes Lefamilia claim played just ONE SIDE of the ball. LeBron was at his athletic peak in Miami. Still "high iq" by his standards, and played on both ends.

I could even get behind 16 LeBron being the best version, but 2018? He played inexperienced trash up until the finals, where he got swept. Ran from guarding KD in crunchtime, too.

He scored more 40 point games in the 2018 playoffs than ANY of Jordan's playoff runs

So he was >> Peak Jordan scoring wise, with superior playmaking and rebounding capabilities as well

How isnt that the GOAT?

How would that make LeBron better? Peak Jordan had MULTIPLE playoff runs averaging more points. But scoring isn't even the argument here. Pre 2018, LeBron had more ways he could impact a game.

How do you explain LeBron having a higher PER that playoff run than any Jordan playoff run

2012 was his best version tbh.. he didn't pound the ball the entire game and got in the post. he was good at defense and didn't settle for jumpers

2013 lebron settled and bricked for the first 6 games of the finals before a bail out

2014 lebron was too juiced on roids after being linked to a Miami clinic a year before that he cramped out and couldn't get by young kawhi

2015 lebron again bricked everything outside of 5 feet

2016 lebron rode kyrie for the first 3 wins then stat padded to get ahead in stats. choked on his last 4 attempts before kyries bail out 3

2017 lebron was horrid at defense and it showed in the finals with him falling over and getting daggers drained in his face

2018 was even worse. so bad at defense he got soft picked off Durant in game 3 to avoid another big time game winning 3 in his face. that and he was in quit mode after he forgot to call timeout in game 1

2019 his body has been totally broken down from roid abuse and needed a full year to recover from a groin pull that kobe had in like 2010 and didn't miss a game.

2020 he was completely carried all year and had a 5 month break then carried another 3 rounds so he could go all out vs a hurt Miami team in the finals and trick people like Stephen a Smith Smith max Kellerman into thinking he's still the best player when it's obviously Durant when healthy and lebrons 2nd best on his own team

2021 hes a complete shell of himself. a fat alcoholic that smokes cigars all day and spends more time making movies and injecting his son with steroids than actually working on his own teams chemistry. he thinks davis will just carry him to the finals every year now but davis is injury prone

and before 2012 he was a total cuck afraid of the bright lights

2012 was his perfect season. only problem is it came on a colluded big 3 during a fake lockout year with 66 games or some shit so it doesn't count

Nah

I can't really think of anything '16 LeBron does better than his '13 self. '16 had the better Finals, but that's about it.

Neither is close to being his best version.

Regular season - 2013 - should have won unanimous MVP, arguably the GOAT regular season

Playoffs - 2016 - best version of Lebron, 2016 finals is GOAT

Overall I would say 2016 because I value playoffs way higher

I think 2017 and 2018 is the best version of him as he still had his athleticism to go along with the best jumper of his career.

2013 Lebron is far better, he just happened to play a worse team in 2016. 2013 Spurs were a better team (better coach, better ball movement, just as elite if not more defensively & more experienced) than the 2016 Warriors.

Offensively yes, but I feel his defense started to fall off in 2017
