The source for this tape was posted in another thread but I'll make this thread to discuss some of the individual plays like this. The speed had to be corrected on some of these clips (slowed down, actually, the conversion for sideline tape was often 24fps played back at 30 and that had to be dropped back for proper playback and analysis) and I cleaned up the overall presentation. Anyways this tape was a great look at the subtle movements that have been lost with poor quality game tape back then. Jerry West looks quick and skillful as can be with his jabs and jittery movements on and off the ball. This play in particular highlights Dick Barnett - who was assigned to West at the start of the series to be a "West stopper" since he was West's former teammate that competed for the same position and probably felt he knew West enough to play him well - trying to stay glued to West to the degree West breaks his ankles on one of his patented pull up jumpers. That's the kind of play that would shut down a pickup game today and make highlights. With the clarity of tape you can even see West looks back at Dick and probably said something to him :oldlol:

Not easy to control the ball when you can only palm it. Thanks for sharing, nice find.

I also like the play at 3:10, where West fakes/adjusts his shot while in the air, something that would later become one of young Jordan's trademarks.

Re.the play at 2:58: I haven't seen anyone getting whistled against for so many BS 3 second calls as Wilt. Honestly, this crap wasn't ever whistled in later decades, yet Wilt was routinely called for this even in plays where he'd not even stayed for as long as 3'' in the paint.

And, to add some Baylor, this play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUD9lcLgROM#t=2m23.
He misses, but it's a damn hard shot he made seem pretty effortless. Baylor wasn't just the "first Dr.J/MJ" in terms of athleticism, but also in terms of big hands that allowed him to palm the ball in the air and to generate his hangtime.

West had beautiful elevation on the pull up. They are terrified of him on the perimeter.
