Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger has warned that the website can no longer be trusted — insisting it is now just “propaganda” for the left-leaning “establishment.”

Sanger told UnHerd’s Lockdown TV Wednesday that he started the “encyclopedia of opinion” in 2001 purely on the basis it would offer true neutrality and offer “multiple points of view” on “hot button issues.”

Now, he insisted, conservative voices are “sternly warned if not kicked out” if they try to add a different take on establishment views — which Sanger deemed “propaganda.”

“You can’t cite Fox News on socio-political issues. It’s just banned now,” he insisted of the apparent clampdown on respected conservative voices.

“It means that if a controversy does not appear in the mainstream centre-left media, then it’s not going to appear on Wikipedia,” he said.

Now you can only rely on the site to “to give an establishment point of view,” rather than the diverse range of opinions it was set up to give, he insisted.

“If only one version of the facts is allowed then that gives a huge incentive to wealthy and powerful people to seize control of things like Wikipedia in order to shore up their power,” he said.

“And they do that,” he continued. “There’s a very big, nasty, complex game being played behind the scenes to make the article say what somebody wants them to say.

Sanger said there are “all sorts of tricks people can play to win it,” including the use of dedicated PR companies to influence listings.

The Wikipedia co-founder cited the entry for President Biden, noting that it “has very little by way of the concerns that Republicans have had about him.”

“So if you want to have anything remotely resembling the Republican point of view about Biden, you’re not going to get it from the article,” he said.

He noted there was just a short paragraph on the “Ukraine scandal” involving the president’s son, Hunter, despite the political outrage it created.

“Very little of that can be found in Wikipedia. And what little can be found is extremely biased and reads like a defense counsel’s brief,” he said.

And it’s not just politics, he said, noting that the site only reflects “establishment mouthpieces” like Dr. Anthony Fauci as well as government health groups in its coverage of COVID-19.

“There’s a lot of Nobel prize winners and distinguished doctors whose views are not only not welcome on Wikipedia — they’re literally censored on YouTube and sometimes Facebook and Twitter because they contradict the narrative,” he said.

“There’s a global enforcement of a certain point of view on issues like COVID,” he insisted, calling it “amazing to me as a libertarian, or a liberty-loving conservative.”

Wikipedia did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

I wouldn't call it a battle between good and evil. Just the nature of things. The most vile people, the type that would kidnap, rape and then kill a little girl with the claw of a hammer are the ones that take control of information, and put just as evil politicians into power. While smiling in your face and presenting a different reality. It's the way it has always been throughout humanity. In every country.

I would say that in that sense, Trump's Presidency was a battle between good and evil. And if you followed things by what was said in full context, rather than a narrative condensed into 2 minutes, then it becomes obvious.

A particular evil are people who through manipulation try to create deep resentment between different groups, and in the process destroying countless lives for all groups.

One really has to understand the fact that there are people who would have no issue killing a little girl with the claw of a hammer, and most politicians probably fall into that group. People like AOC, the Squad, Biden, The Bushes, Hillary, Bill, Weiner. And thousands of more politicians, and people in power throughout humanity.

Sanger has been salty against Wikipedia and another co-founder Jimmy Wales, who still is involving with the project, for almost 2 decades. Nothing's new yet OP is trying to make it sounds new. :ohwell:

I forgot to post the link to the article https://nypost.com/2021/07/16/wikipedia-co-founder-says-site-is-now-propaganda-for-left-leaning-establishment/

The article is from 07-16-2021, about comments that Larry Sanger made on July 14, 2021. So if these comments are recent news, must I not post it because he's not part of Wikipedia any longer?

I just don't get the logic. Are his comments about the Ukraine scandal and Hunter Biden false?

And that's another thing with people and the way they think. Even if something was clear as day, if it's against their team, any little excuse would invalidate a negative point of view.

Reminds me of a YouTube comment that I read on a video about the cop that was sentenced to over 200 years. I don't know if the cop is innocent or guilty, but I read one comment that went down a whole list, conceding as to why he might be innocent. He's trying to sound fair, but he's part of the team "He's guilty." But all those good points that he made about the cop possibly being innocent went down the tube because he found an excuse. And that excuse was that something akin to him lying about cheating on his girlfriend or something. Or just flirting with someone. Something like that.

So basically, something like a prostitute admitting that she's lying to get compensation money, such a thing is thrown out of consideration because the guy might have Jay Walked 3 years ago. The person wants him to be guilty, so all they need is the slightest negative to convince themselves. Such are the majority of people.
