The reason why Wilt's scoring numbers appear so skewed in the finals compared to other all-time greats.

Is that he only played 1 series of 5 NBA Finals games as a scorer (attempting 24 shots per game in those 5 games) and averaged 29ppg that finals (averaged 33 vs those Celtics that regular season).

For the rest of his NBA Finals career, he literally took 11.7 shots per game for all the other series combined.

Because he was older and had chosen to play a Russell like role on all those teams as they often had good shooters or other ball-dominant superstars much like the Celtics of that time.

Also when looking at the teams that Wilt faced in the finals it should be noted that almost every single one of them were top 5 in Def Rtg and Opp PTS/G.

The 1964 Celtics were number 1 in Def Rtg when Wilt faced them in the finals

The 1967 Warriors were number 2 in Def Rtg when Wilt faced them in the finals.

The 1969 Celtics were number 1 in Def Rtg when Wilt faced them in the finals.

The 1970 Knicks were number 1 in Def Rtg when Wilt faced them in the finals.

The 1972 Knicks were number 6 in Def Rtg when Wilt faced them in the finals.

The 1973 Knicks were number 4 in Def Rtg when Wilt faced them in the finals.

The fact that Jerry West tops this list shows how meaningless of a stat is it. Jerry West is a CHOKER, could never win the title until 1972 and that year he had - 0.2 offensive win shares.

It is nice to see Kawhi beating Duncan in a stat, i'm sure he'll be running laps around him in this stat by the time his career ends.

you're right, only 6 finals, yet more 35pt games than lebron? Doesnt make any sense...

might have to do with winning 6 rings in 6 appearances but not sure

Wilt, Duncan and Dirk is surprising to be that low. No idea how Kawhi got into a top 20 list though.

Yet produced as much as some of the people you call top 20 in the Finals.

That’s the point. Two of those guys being LeBron James notable sidekicks.

And even with the arbitrary 35 point cut off, Dwyane Wade and Kyrie both had like two or three 34 point games as well :oldlol:

AD has a 34 point Finals performance under his name as well. While doing all that heavy lifting defensively last year for the Lakers.

Iverson sucks?

The guy who as a one man show with defenders gave the two headed monster undefeated Shaq and Kobe Lakers their only loss of the post season? And didn’t quit on his team in over time when the game was winnable aka LeBron vs 2018 Warriors.

Anyway, you’re an idiot. What’s the significant difference between a 34 point game and a 35 point game? It’s arbitrary.

Now 30 point games to a 40 point games is a true separate level in terms of production.

And to top it off, I bet you a good chunk of LeGOAT's games were in L's (i.e. stat padding) and MJ's in Ws.

All of Wade's were from 2006.
No, one of them came in the 2011 finals. The year he would’ve won another finals MVP, if somebody didn’t LeQuit, LeChoke or get LeLocked Up by JJ Barea …

Either way, don’t see your point?

That’s the quality of player Wade was.

That’s why it was cowardly that LeBron NEEDED to join forces with an established finals MVP, and MVP caliber player like that, plus a franchise forward in Chris Bosh.

He wasn’t going to get the same level of touches needed to accommodate someone else’s narcissist ego in order to get them to play hard and not quit in order to win championships.

I try to make a good, honest thread and I get a bunch of pathetic 3ball and his alts chiming in on LBJ vs MJ. Tired argument guys, MJ will never be better than LBJ, stop trying to convince us otherwise.

To those that responded to the thread, thank you.

I was most surprised to see Duncan with 0 and West with 18.

Sounds like the MJ quitter attitude. Yikes. Also, Russell is laughing with 11. That's the ring cut off. Much like 7,631 points is the playoffs scoring cut off.

So anyway, what surprised you the most?

But, Jordan's got the most FMVPs and scoring titles. :confusedshrug: MJ is also the ALL TIME leader in regular-season, playoff and finals PPG. Let that marinate a little before you respond.

Bron fam logic is accumulation stats > dominance.

So to them, Pete Rose > Ted Williams.
