Saw this picture on facebook and it got me wondering.

*take sporty/hipster out of the equation

How have these subcultures materialized itself and what have they originated from?

And since many of them are so similar, why do they group themselves into 1 exact type?

What are these people compensating for?

I‘m guessing everyone in these wasn‘t exactly popular or „one of the boys“ growing up or in high school or whatever, or just plain different, and so they look for a channel with others who feel „different“.

What say you?

Oh and now you got these „e-girls“ result of growing digital sexualization and acting cute or whatever i guess, so a new subculture could emerge any time i guess.

None of that is subculture at this point really, just different branches of mainstream culture. How did they originate? I don’t know that’s tough. Do they start organic and then Maddy ave gets their hands on it? Or is it a big marketing social engineering thing from the get go?

A lot people like to be different but apart of a group. Simple as that. High level marketeers knows what’s up.

Oh and 40,000 posts on a message board puts you in a unique group of people. That’s “subculture”.

Thats for sure but i dont think many of these give a **** about politics. If they do they‘re definitely feminists though.

But in general i dont think they have much to do with activism or involvement.

None of that is mainstream.

Even they refer to themselves as sub cultures.

Might be more true where your at but California is pretty much a melting pot of every kind of label you could put on someone therefore it’s all just culture. There was time when this was all counter culture but not in 2021. You gotta get a little more unique than being a “punk rocker” or “metal head” IMO. Also once big corporations start selling the style it isn’t underground anymore it’s for mainstream consumption. The picture you posted proves that. That’s on some Madison Ave shit, just look at it. But I guess this is semantics.

We fight with our desire to be a unique individual while apart of the collective. That’s all there is too it.

What’s up with the culture of people who have 40 thousand plus posts on a troll message board. I wanna delve into that kind of psychology.

I was just thinking how in Cali being a sports fan alone might be a sub culture. Not everyone out here roots for these teams or gives a shit about this crap. Seriously out of every 50 people I meet, 1 might care about the NBA. Probably less.

Interesting pov, that scott pilgrim video.

Any other ideas, where / how these weird subcultures originate themselves?

It seems almost always some sort of personal experience / inadequate-ness played into it.

Belonging to something? Recognition? A way to meet people and make friends?
