In baseball you get more casual viewers for home run slugfests than for a matchup with guys hitting precise bloopers into the gap and legging out extra bases. Viewers who don't watch regularly want to see the big explosive flashes when they tune in, moreso than nuanced, understated precision which they're not familiar enough with the game to appreciate.

It's one of the unfortunate things about being a serious fan of anything that goes corporate/commercial. It always ends up watered down for the sake of greater profits. It's a shame, but that's the way things always go.
