This is an incredibly nuanced and complicated subject that is so multifaceted I don't even know where to begin because the implications of such discussion far outreach this specific board and they go to the downright core of humanity, the influence of the internet on our thought processes and etc. It's a lot, too much to post. Here's a few 'quick' notes.

As for your question... 4chan.org/b/ - Immaturity to the maximum extreme, if you so care to look. Pretty sure they don't delete anything except the one single absolute worst thing humanity has to offer, imo. But in terms of allegedly "normal" forums? Yeah, this is up there. I probably can't name one.

The problem is, however, how do you moderate a forum in a clean way that allows free speech and while also avoiding a bunch of circle jerking group think? A tall task, I dare say. Reddit discussion is mostly clean but it's a bunch of circlejerk group think with a bunch of morons upvoting each other. This forum is largely unmoderated and it's a bunch of schizos running the asylum. Jeff probably deserves far more credit than I give him for, but the alts are out of control. That's the biggest gripe. I know for a fact he has access to all of the IPs and he just lets them run wild. Even the guys that are using VPNs aren't likely to have a different VPN connection for every single alt so it's probably super easy to expose them via their network identifier and subnet identifier but I could be wrong.

The LeBron obsession we'd already seen before. It's not unique to him. Back in the day there were literal days were every single topic on the front page was Kobe related. 100% of topics. 100%. It's more extreme today because of the advent of technology via smartphones/more home internet but the behavior is exactly the same. Anyone who has posted here long enough knows that. It's just a little more deafening now because LeBron is a better player and because of the tech factor. Unluckily for you guys LeBron probably won't retire for another 3+ years and it'll take at least 1 more after that for the obsession to start to dry up with all of the more than semi-casual morons that can't stop posting about him.

This board is largely the same as it has always been... the biggest difference nowadays is there are less than a handful of posters with 30+ alt accounts at a minimum. Most of them aren't posting at the same time but some of them are and it's pathetically obvious. If Jeff would just out everyone using an alt and give the moderators that remain access to view IPs this place would be a lot better although far from perfect... hell I've posted on a few alts in order to try to just post here peacefully but some of these guys won't allow it. They keep baiting me over and over and over, even on the other accounts I've tried.

Can you imagine the hilarity for us and utter shame that like one or two guys that post here would have if their alts were ousted that talk to each other and spam rolling emoticons at their own jokes? One day I will buy this shit board when they piss me off enough and burn it to the ground with this sort of thing.

i'm not even saying i could do a better job, just saying this place required some attention. and yeah, to your point about the internet changing things, that's true, shit was going to have an effect on the forum regardless...forums are a dying medium, everyone takes to twitter or reddit/r/nba for basketball discussion, and to a lesser degree real gm. but overall forums are a dying trend. still, this place had its charm that made it so appealing and unique, but the complete lack of moderation ruined it.

there was always some very weird trolls too, like that rocketsgreatness guy that absolutely would not stop, guy plauged this forum like a disease. now its 3ball and those that take his bait. every thread in the main gets monopolized into a lebron discussion. i don't remeber 2008 ISH being like that about any one player. we had kobe threads, but you could still get a thread going about KG or Nash or Dirk. heck, i used to discuss Amare Stoudemire. try to discuss anyone not named lebron and you'll have 3ball or hamtardo spamming their narratives.

it's too late to correct the situation anyhow. i don't even know why i made the thread. the forum is permanently a cesspool. if you do happen to purchase it, at least do us a favor and expose the alts. list their IP's for everyone to see.
