Kobe in 2006 averaged 35 PPG with one of the worst rosters of all time.

And then 31.6 the next season in 2007.

So that makes me wonder what his averages would be in today's stat inflated era in which players such as Trae young in his second season was averaging over 29 PPG.

It depends on who he plays with. If he's on an island in terms of offensive help, then he's putting up 35-36 a game, easily. I can't see how any of today's defenders would slow him down, let alone stop him.

If he was on his 2006 and 2007 teams in this era I honestly think he could seriously average over 40 PPG as with these new freedom of movement rules that the NBA bought in he would be even more unstoppable as an offensive player than he already was.

I look at the NBA nowadays and I seriously think Kobe played in the wrong era as if you put Frobe or 2006 Kobe in 2021 the numbers he would have been putting would have been historic.

There were 9 players this year that averaged over 27 PPG.

And half of them on that list I think couldn't even hold Frobe's jockstrap.

2005 onwards was the start of career averages for a lot of stars. Given that I think Kobe can do 36-38ppg with better efficiency in today's game.

As many as he wanted, up to 38-39 or so

Curry was must see last season. I'd imagine Prime Kobe would be the same way. Scoring is easier now, so 35ppg would be nothing to Kobe.

About 25ppg. Today's game is all about 3 point shooting and Kobe was only a career 32% shooter from there

If kobe made his life easier on the court then 40+ easily but I know kobe never did that in his career so same 35 ppg.

The big rules change was in 2006 getting rid of the hand check. Since then the only big rules change i can think of is resetting the shot clock to 14 instead of 24 after an offensive rebound. That would affect ppg but not pts per 100 possessions.

The freedom of movement enforcement did more to free up scorers than anything. I’m not sure how much it would do for an on ball guy like Kobe but combined with the higher pace and spread floors letting one on one specialists thrive?

I don’t know if he scores more but he shoots better. He’d only score more than 35 on a terrible team that asked it of him. But the same rules that would help him would limit situations where he’d need to push it. It’s easy to find guys who can produce in this offensive climate so you can score enough without one guy running wild every night. Wiggins just did 19 a game on 48/38 and people were saying he had no help. The standards are different. Kobe would likely have a 20ppg sidekick and good shooters to lean on unlike in 06. He might not need to do as much individually.

Hard, one dribble pullups. Fadeaways. Dribbling in duress and through multiple defenders. Even had that double and triple pump fake AKA the "old man" move. And this is a 20 year old Kobe. Put him on a bad team, and he would do anything he wanted.

Depends on how many minutes/possessions per game he plays now vs back then and what type of team he is on.

Honestly, I don't really see him doing MUCH better than he did in 05-06. Dude took 27 shots per game along with 10 free throws. He isn't shooting more than that in this era. Maybe he puts up 37ppg instead of 35ppg.

Harden had his insane two year stretch of averaging 35.3ppg...but he was taking 13 threes per game and 11 free throws per game, so his style of play was absolutely trying to maximize his scalable points per shot/free throws...Kobe's style wasn't as potentially scalable since he shot so many mid range shots.
