NBA players don’t give a shit about the olympics.
NBA players from all over the league are on other countries Olympic teams - and competing hard. The U.S. team is also competing hard, they just aren't succeeding.

There's no good reason why a USA Team with Durant, Lillard, Tatum, Green, Middleton, and Booker should ever lose to a team who's best player is Fournier, a player who's never made an NBA All-Star Team.
This potentially could be very bad for Durant's legacy.

…..capable of losing to other top tier players in glorified pickup games of randomly selected talent.”
You can both acknowledge that the other countries have great players and acknowledge that dumping a bunch of random nba players onto a team to play in a new system with née teammates sometimes days after their seasons ended isnt ideal to get their best. Some of these other teams have multiple nba players too. Top European guys. There are more nba level players than there are nba roster spots. Those other players are still nice as ****.
I don’t think thriving in one situation and not the other is that individually telling really. I don’t think it proves Vspan or Arroyo….Patty Mills…Saranus….any of those guys….isn’t that good when they aren’t special in the nba after winning against hall of famers internationally. They just aren’t built to play the nba game as well. But people don’t want bring up the international stars who can barely hold onto an nba roster spot. What….it doesn’t count both ways?
It’s a different game. It’s like the college guards who lead teams on great runs then are garbage in the nba compared to people they destroyed in college. Doesn’t make the college game or nba game like….worse. Just different.
It tells you that fit matters a lot more than some give it credit for. How good you are isnt just talent….it’s a dozen factors. The players talents aren’t always the deciding factor in effectiveness at the moment.

First of all the NBA playoffs just ended. Booker and Holiday went straight from the finals to Japan. Ordinarily there would have been a break from the end of the playoffs to the start of the Olympics.
Secondly they lost one game, when they had a 7 pt lead with 3:20 left. I think we should wait for a bigger sample size before drawing conclusions.
We know the roster construction is iffy and Pop probably isn't the best guy to be coaching the team. Still there are some big time players on that roster. I think we should wait and see how everything plays out.

worse than ever due to the beginner format of the NBA (hands-off, open paint/defensive 3), which has yielded inferior skillsets (threes, layups, iso or 2-man basketball, aka high screen spamming).. We lack the pure basketball instinct required of 5-man basketball and attacking packed paints.. our simple minset is like a caveman: "clearout... bring me high screen... iso".. we don't know how to play real basketball anymore due to Adam Silver's rules

Not used to real defense. They'll adjust and be fine but it's clear watching them against the better international teams that they've been spoiled with all the nba rules.

....still the best in the world.
Some pretty cringe comments on page 1. Consider:
-Holiday, Middleton, and Booker played game 6 of the Finals on 7-20. They were playing against France only 5 days later in a different country, with different teammates, different coach and different rules.
-these other national teams have been playing together for years. We just threw a bunch of guys together. We had such a hard time filling out the roster that we actually added Javale, the crown prince of Shaqtin.
-the closest thing to a pg we have is Holiday.
Yet we still won gold and only one team was close to us in the near the end of the game. Bottom line is our team still had the most talent. We had Tatum coming off the bench lol.

not coached well.
I would of had Green, KD, Tatum , Holiday , and Dane starting , defense and firepower the score would of been 125 to 80.
Middleton as 6th man , and booker to throw daggers..

It depends on who plays. We had some dead weight on the roster.
Adding Javale was just a desperation move. If our best players are out there it wouldn't have been close.
Imagine if Steph was playing. Just picking Gafford instead of McGee would make a big difference. McGee sucks.

Not used to real basketball. I said from jump they'd struggle for a bit and eventually adjust and that's exactly what happened. It's not that these guys couldn't play in previous era's with real defense they just wouldn't get the crazy stats they get now. This shouldn't even be arguable but somehow idiots still argue it

Becoming less and less interested in playing in the Olympics, no LeBron, no Harden, no Curry, no AD etc.
It seemed like every superstar player was all in in 2008 & 2012, that is no longer the case.
