these guys are the GOATs at this drafting shit

The issue is not whether or not he's going to be an all star. For all we know he could end up being a better prospect than Snuggs. But the problem is that Toronto has now set themselves up in a situation where their top draft pick has to either play alongside Pascal, or come off the bench because we know he's not starting over him. That's going to hurt his development. It was able to work for a guy like VanVleet, but that man was undrafted. This is your fourth overall pick. The last time they had a pick that high, they used it on Chris Bosh. This is not a guy that you want to draft with this high of a pick being put in a situation where he either has to play out of position or share minutes with your all star forward.
It's just...a very questionable selection all things considered. Perhaps Scottie has deeper potential we're not seeing but he's not the kind of guy you want on a roster like this.

You're not getting it. Whether or not he becomes an all star is irrelevant. They already have an all star in Siakam who plays the same position. I know people like to harp on teams like the Trail Blazers for passing up on Michael Jordan for this exact reason, but there is legitimate merit to picking based on position value rather than player value. You put them in a position where they are fighting for minutes with your top star and that can absolutely hurt their development. It comes down to the point where getting rid of Siakam is your best option, and that's absolute lunacy. It should never come to that point.

he's the most important piece of our organization aka the brains - watch us contend in less than 2 or 3 years.

It is a stupid pick. You get a lottery pick to draft a future star not another future role player. We already have OG, Lowry is 40. Vanvleet/Flynn/Trent is not going to work, they are too small.
So what is the plan here?

If it was Suggs that would displace VanVleet. Siakam is the one the Raptors are shopping around.

I was thinking Siakam might be on his way out.
Yeah that pick was a head scratcher. Suggs will be the better player. You have to trade Siakam for a player that’ll make passing up Suggs make sense.

NBA is really a positionless league at this point. Maybe Barnes is your new starting center.

To masai or whatever his name is credit, the league is starting to clamp down on perimeter floppers so maybe raps are getting ready by loading the roster with lengthy defenders.

Wait isn't Siakam PF and Barnes SF? Barnes played point guard in college. I think they project him to play Scottie Pippen role.
