Shortest league height since the 70's; lightest weight since 1992-1993. We're truly living in the slim jim era.

Early 2000's was the peak weight, while the late 80's was the peak height. Overall size/volume goes to the early 2000's.

Wasn't it just a year or two ago when the league announced new requirements for listing height accurately?

It's pretty well known that until that point the listed heights were wildly inflated for basically every player.

Without looking at the numbers I'd hazard a guess that 2s and 3s have gotten bigger while 4s and 5s have gotten smaller.

Positionless play, defensive versatility due to zone(everyone has to cover space and be able to rotate).

This is my guess with the equation as well there is a major shift down in center playing height but a bigger increase at the two. Teams look at height as a bad thing most likely as the game progresses. Before teams always targeted height and thought it was so great as the saying goes "You cant teach height" but thy realized when the whole teams now can all shoot 3s and flooring space is abundant then these lanky 7+ foot players are a liability.

I agree. Not as many Muresan, Manute Bol, Mark Eaton, Rik Smit, Yao Ming, Shawn Bradley's.

Too much defensive liability with spacing and five guards running around I believe

Shaq retired.

There's a ton of truth behind this statement, whether you meant it as a joke or not.

It wasn't him as a single individual... it was how teams league wide responded to his presence. His dominance is literally the biggest reason that players were so big during his era. There were other reasons, but his existence was a huge part.

There were so many big stiffs that had no business in the league and wouldn't have otherwise been were they not a body to throw at Shaq.

Despite the game changing, if Shaq were to get drafted now, by 8 years in, the league as a whole would be substantially bigger... again.

There are literally 7 footers walking around that are millionaires that otherwise would not have been millionaires simply because they were 6 fouls to throw at Shaquille O'Neal.
