Kawhi Leonard has declined his $36M player option for next season and becomes a free agent, per source. Now, the expectation is that Leonard will negotiate a new deal to stay with Clippers. @ChrisBHaynes first on declining option.

Not that it should matter. Just saying.

Also Paul. Didn’t wanna make 2 topics:

I genuinely wonder how Kawhi's health will impact the rest of his career. He's still in his prime, but apart from the Zsa Zsa injury It appears that most of his injuries have been non-contact. Those can be chronic and potentially career shortening.

Regarding CP3, at age 36, he possibly has two more All-Star seasons left. If I'm signing him it's a win now situation.

Both are reportedly expected to resign with suns and clippers.

Chris Paul about to make 400 million in career salary alone + all those damn state farm commercials. I guess you don't need a ring if you're a damn near billionaire by the time you retire.

Kawhi is injured, so i guess he just resigns 5 years with clippers.

Cp3 wants to ring chase. He doesn’t care about the money. He got a taste of the finals and is realizing time is running out. And apparently Phoenix isn’t the place that’s going to happen.

Kawhi on the other hand is dumb to leave all that money on the table now that there’s too many questions surrounding his health.

Not if he's already got a new contract negotiated and agreed to. Which wouldn't surprise me.

I think Kawhi is doing a 1+1 deal with clippers, he would then be eligible for the full 35% max contract next offseason.

That must mean he expects to return around allstar break this season.

the suns are a trash organization with a boner that won't go limp for another year or 2 because they just made the finals, so of course they will sign cp3 to a horrible contract. if they had any business acumen, they would let cp3 sign somewhere else. then again, they should have drafted haliburton instead of some pf who isn't even NBA ready. they would have been set for the future at the PG position, a young pg that fits the timeline of booker and ayton...but NOOOOOO, trash organization gonna make trash decisions :facepalm

yeah they'll both easily get longer deals.

IMO easy to say they'll both stay put. good situation for both guys on their current teams with the lakers being injury prone - both have a great chance to realistically make the finals.

I won't say the Clippers have a better option but I would hate to have my long term future tied in to Leonard. He's very conscientious about preserving his body. Wise on his part but it's now ruined something like three playoff runs for his team.

he's a complete princess. it literally destroyed their chemistry the first year, having to watch this guy get all this special treatment from the ownership and coaches and then still sit out every other game. :oldlol:

That would be a really good defensive team. Between lonzo and mikal, they’d have elite defense

CP0 should take the MLE or whatever the Lakers can offer him and finally win a championship. We could use a back-up PG.

That is exactly why Kawhi opted out. He is going to re-sign for the max and max years. He probably knows his career could be cut short at any moment with his history. He is going all in.

I bet cp3 is in the same boat. He is going to take the biggest contract he can get. Some fool will line right up to throw 100mill at him, and he is going to be hurt most of the remainder of his career.

They can't unless if it's s&t. They have bird rights on cp3 so they can pay him whatever they want including max if they were stupid enough. Suns are past the cap so they can't outright sign lonzo.

He’s significantly better than WB why on earth would he be the back up? Pelinka should have targeted CP3 to start with. What an idiot.

He has no choice now, they've mortaged their team for the next 6 years to get Kawhi & PG. They basically have to bend to Kawhi's will now regardless.
