2 things.

These videos always make me upset we never got to see Kobe as a coach in the nba. And….isn’t it crazy that KD might actually be a better scorer now than he was when Kobe already couldn’t find a weakness years ago?

Offensively the achilles tear appears to have had no effect, He's still the best scorer on the planet. Not sure about his defense but that would be off-topic.

I just wonder when we'll get another offensive talent like Durant again... I would say that he is the greatest ever, and it is not even close.

https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-kobe-bryant-reveals-why-tracy-mcgrady-was-hardest-matchup-career/

“Tracy McGrady was the single hardest match-up I had in my career, he could just do about everything on offense,” wrote Bryant, per ESPN.

“The guy that always gave me the most problems was Tracy McGrady. He had all the skills and all the athleticism, but he was 6’9 and he was very tough to figure out.”

You can't take anything that anyone says too seriously. People's feelings in any given moment can completely change an answer that they otherwise would give to you on a normal day. None of it means anything.

I used that interview in a video from like 8 years ago:

https://youtu.be/V079Xs9URh4

It was from before he retired. That said I’ve heard him say similar things about Tmac, KD, and Melo too. It’s like if you asked me what the best album ever was. I wouldn’t give you the same answer every time but it wouldn’t mean the answer isn’t to be taken serious if you for some reason care what I think.

Right, that video was before he retired but he also said this...

"Tracy McGrady might have, in effect, been the hardest matchup" and that is a post retirement quote from a book.

Keep in mind that Kobe was old af when Durant was really really coming into his own, so that also adds context to the situation.

"When I talk to kids about that, that's what I tell them... they ask about the hardest player I ever had to defend I say it's pretty easily, it was Tracy, because he could do everything I could do." and that was from 2019.

So like I said, and like you acknowledged, it probably depended on his mood and what day you asked him.

That aside, it is a shame though that we never got to see his potential as a coach, not that he probably would have done it, he clearly had the ability to dissect the game and articulate it to people.

Bruh... I just watched that McGrady video again... it's hard to believe that's the same game. The paint is packed on almost every single play. Kids that grew up watching the NBA like 2010 and later just don't even know how much NBA offenses have changed and how NBA players today are practically ushered to the basket as a result of the widespread adoption of excessive three point shooting. They might read idiots like me post it on here, but they don't have an appreciation for it, and they never will.

The court has gotten bigger and bigger over the years as the players ability to make 3s get extended out.

There are more open 3s since the court is spread more, which obviously makes pick and rolls more effective.

The era of scoring while heavily guarded, 2pters etc. are all dead for that reason. Everyone plays the same type of ball... 3pters or in the paint.

People aren't getting ushered to the basket because the court is bigger. They're getting ushered to the basket because teams figured out the math behind the three point shot and it's causing defenses to spread out. Court size has little to nothing to do with anything. Court sizes dating back 100 years were still roughly the same size as now.

It's the three point shot combined with not really being allowed to touch perimeter players when they have the ball.

Lol what?

I'm not talking about physically getting bigger, I mean the spread of offensive player. They need to be guarded further out then the 3pt line which opens up drives pick and rolls. Pretty much just echoed what you said.

Tmac was spectacular. The 2000s were such a fun decade for basketball tbh when physical defense was allowed, and it was not just 3pt chucking.. I miss those days..
