It was to open up a roster spot, not that they were desperate for a 2nd round pick. Too many players in his position after retooling this summer.

Damage control. Meltdown. Rent free.

In 2026 no less.

There are a lot of questionable articles/YouTube videos out there that this "made sense" because GS freed up a roster spot. Which seems to make sense until you realize Paschall was the 5th best player on GS; if you're trying to 'free up space', maybe make a bad trade with your 12th best player. For people who don't watch Warriors game, Paschall averaged 14 pts/game in his rookie year in 28 minutes/game.

He is physically strong, is a slasher with skill (but can also move people out of the way with his size)- and a lot of upside. Due to injuries last year, he didn't play as much but there's reason to believe he'd keep developing as a player. With his strength, he has good defensive skills which the Warriors will need.

If you needed to free up a roster move, maybe dump: Mulder or some other bench player who did not have major impact and don't have upside.

Incredibly stupid move by the Warriors; and given their other clownish decisions like getting back an aging Aguodala (who butted heads with Thompson on the 2nd unit) and Jordan Bell who proved his lack of maturity, the Warriors are going nowhere fast. GSW's front office is now as incompetent as they were once competent.

In no planet is Paschal the 5th best player on the team, or even close to that. If he was, he wouldn't have gotten shut out during the winning run last season when only 8 players were playing and needed bodies. Reality is that Paschal is a one trick pony, he can get you buckets when he is hot playing small ball but if he's not on, he's a massive negative on the court. They asked him to work on his shot in his first season, he said he would do it in the summer instead of during the season. Came last summer with the same shot and overweight. Since Steph has now joined, low IQ 1-trick ponies are lucky to be part of the roster, which is what Paschal is. I'm not saying he won't play well for the Jazz, he's just not a good fit for the Warriors. They need players with IQ that can play team ball. Notice that they had no interest in signing Kelly as well. Big physical dude that can play ok defense, but he is low IQ and has no concept of team ball. Gone.

Mulder is 90% going to get dumped. Not sure if true, but read that if he's dumped a month from now or something along those lines instead of now they save some money. I still can't fully grasp all the exceptions and all that nonsense, but take it as you will. Mulder is very likely gone. Iggy is also not coming to save the Warriors. He's a spent, washed 37 year old dude. Warriors have 5 young kids on the roster, 1/3rd of the team. Dude's coming in to mentor them and hopefully speed up their development process. Was listening to +/- and the Warrior journos were saying FO needed someone with leadership on the bench because Curry and Dray can't coach those guys when they're out on the court for 80% of the game. Iggy's main role is going to be mentoring. Another option which is a bonus is him playing as a PG backup for Curry. So maybe he can play 8-14MPG and not be a negative on the court, that would be more than good enough.

Also think of it this way.
Players that can play the 5: Looney, Wiseman, Bjelica, Draymond
Players that can play the 4: Draymond, Bjelica, JTA, Kuminga

There is no spot for him, Warriors need bodies in the front court.

Rudy is washed up

Whiteside is a scrub who doesn't even belong in the NBA

When Utah finish off with a worse record than last year and inevitably lose in the first round, don't come crying to me because I told you so

Whiteside might not even play. See Summer League for details. Gay has plenty left and is an actual modern PF which they haven't had since the corpse of Diaw and the last legs of Joe Johnson

That makes sense. Tax bill is getting out of control, it's not a wonder they want to stop the bleeding a little bit.

I have no idea what you are talking about. If you watched Paschall enough, you'd know he can drive to the hoop, pull up, shoot the midrange. What more do you want him to do? He has speed to go around people and strength to go through people. His 2 pt % is well above 50%. Only Curry, Wiggins, Wiseman, and perhaps Thompson can better create their own shot. He has shown strong defensive prowess and can body up forwards. He was NBA All Rookie First Team. No way he was 5th best player? Who else did 24 pts per 48 minutes? Now healthy, Paschall's development will continue.

As far as team ball, he averaged 4 assists per 48 minutes. Not great, not bad; esp for a PF.

This is a spectacularly stupid decision; it's too bad some are asleep at the wheel.

As for as Iggy as a coach's assistant, they should have hired him as one, instead of taking up a roster spot.

I agree they should have hired Iggy as a coaching assistant, I'm assuming he retires this season and either becomes one or goes to the front office. As for Paschal, they gave up on him. I think the fit and timing just didn't work, but that doesn't mean he can't do well with the Jazz.
