View Full Version : Isn't Lebron supposed to make all of his team mates better?

How did Schroder and Harrel both go from being Six Man of the Year's/runner ups to trade garbage in one year with Lebron? Marc Gasol was instrumental in the Raptors winning a ring two seasons ago, where was he last year? Kuzma used to have his own circle jerk among Laker fans for how much of a steal he was in the 2nd round draft and now he's a worthless bum. Even Anthony Davis, all of his numbers are down from when he was in New Orleans. All of their stats are down since the moment they teamed up with Lebron.
Since he became a Laker, what players has Lebron actually made better?

Kevin Love went from a 26/12 superstar to a spot up shooting soft big man
He's probably one of the best examples of players that were ruined by Bron Ball

No he didn't the second best player on the team was Rick Rubio and they would have made the playoffs if Pekovic was healthy
He had to completely change his style of play to accommodate to LeBrons style of play.
Lol at this. Middleton and Jrue also put up better numbers when Giannie wasnt around, does that mean Giannis made them worse? Harden put up worse numbers with KD, its just that your role changes depending who you're playing with.. If a good player plays in a team of scrubs he'll be the main scorer and have better numbers, if he has to share with other good players his numbers will most likely go down

Kevin Love's game isn't compatible with any other player except if he wants to go for high lottery picks. You weren't born yet when Kevin Love joined the Cavs.

I dont know that ball dominant play style is the best way to put it. Its his system. Lebron knows (as well as any other astute observer) that he has A much better basketball IQ than just about anyone else in the league. Lebron is an unusual player in that he brings A whole system with him. He isnt just the head of the beast he is the beast. I have criticized Bron ball myself due to its obvious weaknesses. However, if he has the correct pieces it works and he knows it. I think Rondo was Lebron's greatest asset A couple of years back because he had no issue confronting Lebron and taking things in A different direction when Bronball wasnt working. Now that Lebron is getting older, this "ball dominant style" isnt as effective as it once was because he gets mentally and physically tired much easier. Which is why, ideally, at this stage you want to surround Lebron with other High IQ players that Lebron trusts. Lebron knew that he could Trust Rondo's decision making. I would argue that that is far more important in Lebrons mind than any athleticism that someone would bring. When Rondo was running his squad Bron could sit out and get as much rest as needed and things would be in good hands. The above point is why I think Westbrook is A nightmare situation for Lebron. Low IQ player who makes up for it with unusual athleticism, which is now somewhat in decline. This is not very helpful.

Love put up empty stats in Minnesota.
Those "empty stats" more often than not prevented the games the Timberwolves had from being massacres on a daily basis. It's not his fault the franchise never came anywhere close to building a cohesive unit around him. I can't even begin to tell you how many times Kevin Love had to put up legitimate video game numbers just to give his team close wins.
Lebron made him soft
He was the best power forward in basketball on the Timberwolves, absolute monster
LeBron didn't make him soft. Kevin Love always had injury and mental health issues before he came to Cleveland. His biggest mistake was slimming down when he came to the Cavaliers. He had more weight in Minnesota which allowed his body to at least take more damage when he constantly battled with other bigs down-low to fight for possessions.
Like Kobe made Dwight soft?
If Kevin Love cant handle playing basketball next to the alpha of alphas that aint brons problem. Sit down and stfu if you cant play. Soft like a blanket.
Kyrie had his best season next to bron and kyrie is the biggest head case of all time.
We're really going to pretend that Kevin Love didn't have more to deal with than just playing alongside LeBron, something Chris Bosh himself has stated is not an easy thing to do? Kevin was always the one who took constant shit from both the media, Cavaliers fans, and sometimes even his own teammates, and most of the time it wasn't even his own fault. He came to Cleveland with the intention of being part of a winning culture, but was forced to make the most sacrifices out of anyone who got there. Even JR Smith didn't need to make any sacrifices (who, by the way, LeBron absolutely made a better player and anyone who disagrees is a moron). Kevin Love's postgame, which was always what he based his play around, was completely taken away from him by David Blatt who felt he would be of better use being a stretch four. This in return took away a lot of his offensive rebounding, which was also a major part of his game. And moronic Cleveland fans, who didn't watch a single minute of Kevin in Minnesota, all thought he was an overrated bust of a player who had no business being given the money that Cleveland was paying him when he resigned with the team, when in reality he was actually a much better player in Minnesota than Kyrie Irving was in Cleveland. In reality, Kevin was probably the most perfect all star teammate LeBron could have ever asked for. He stretched the floor for him, was extremely unselfish with a high basketball IQ, and was a terrific passing PF. And a lot of people tend to forget that even with all of this in mind, and even with how limited Love became in Cleveland, he still managed to grab two more all star team selections with the Cavaliers while having some notable performances, including his 34 point in the first quarter game, his 31/11 game against Toronto in the playoffs in 2018, and a 21 rebounding performance in the 2017 NBA Finals of game 1 which, by the way, is currently an NBA record.
Oh, and all of this by the way, happened despite Kevin choosing to opt out of his contract, and resign with Cleveland for a much less expensive contract when he could have opted in, waited for the year, and then resigned when the new TV deal kicked in which would have given him a lot more money than what he got.
Don't try to claim Kevin Love is soft. He put up with more shit than anyone that I've ever had to see put up with when he became part of something that should have been an incredibly special experience for him. And it probably still was, since in the end he won a championship out of it, but he had to put up with far more bullshit than he deserved. The man never got a break, and sometimes I wished for his own sake that he did. I can't imagine going through all the shit that he's had to put up with for his career.

So did LeBron make AD worse as a player? Or are you purposely leaving him out so your narrative doesn't come out as a massive load of shite? What about Mo Williams who actually BECAME an all star player once he joined LeBron and the Cavaliers? Lebron incorporates a ball dominant time of possession while assisting 50% less than say stockon or magic. So he's a selfish monopolizer. Doesn't look to make others better than they are or "enhance" them, but rather use them, mostly for spacing purposes, to create his own scoring off the dribble. This is why his offenses falter in the face of teams that have great talent AND teamwork.

Chris Bosh became a much better defensive player. Whatever sacrifices he had to make on offense were made up for by the improvements he made on the defensive end. He was still an all star caliber player even as the third option on offense. Therefor, he became better playing with LeBron, even if it wasn't necessarily because he was playing WITH LeBron.

So wait, now we're going off of the system they're playing under? Then I guess by that logic Kevin Love didn't become worse due to LeBron, he became worse due to David Blatt limiting him to being a stretch four (which is literally what happened. David Blatt wanted him to be a permanent stretch four so that's what he became).

The reason he became a spot up 4 in the first place is too accommodate to LeBrons drive and kick style of as he's a mediocre scorer without shooters around him to space the floor.

No, it's because David Blatt wanted a stretch four because that's how he designs most of his offense. That's how he did things back in Europe and he wanted that in the US too. When David Blatt was first named the head coach of the Cavaliers, one of the first things he said he wanted was a stretch forward, and at that point in time, LeBron hadn't even announced that he was coming back to Cleveland. When LeBron James was sitting on the bench and Kevin was still on the floor, his main role was still being a stretch four because that's what Blatt prefers. Once Blatt got fired and Lue took over, Love was still a stretch four but a lot more effort was incorporated into giving him more post up opportunities and feeding him down low.
You should try studying the game and researching things for once in your life. Maybe you won't spend 90% of your time on this forum saying dumb shit if you do.
This wouldn't be an issue if LeBron developed an elite jumps hot game like Kobe and MJ who could play with anyone and not hinder there games

Kobe and MJ were both career 32% three point shooters, where as LeBron so far is a career 34% shooter from 3. But yes, he has no elite jump shot but they do.

Half of the flaws you describe are either non existent or aren't flaws at all. Ingram - flourishing without LeBron

Conclusion LeBron makes role players better and stars worse because they have to accommodate to his ball dominant play style

Lebron didn't make Wade worse, bad knees did. Wade was great in 2011 and 2012 and in 2013 before he hurt his knee he was starting to play at a top 10 level during their winning streak. Bosh went from a first option to a 3rd option...of course his numbers went down. That is just a given. Jr Smith pretty much just stopped caring going into his 30s. Doesn't really have anything to do with LeBron. Kuzma has always been a scrub. Schroder's season with OKC was an outlier as far as efficiency goes. It's hard to say whether or not he could have built on that. He was also playing with two superstars so obviously he wasn't going to get the plays and shots like he did on OKC where it was much more of a free for all with Paul and Schroder. As far as Ingram goes, he played well in 2019 with Lebron except for the fact that he didn't have a 3pt shot. He added that the last two seasons and that has helped his game flourish. If he was taking and hitting 3pters like he has the last two years in 2019 he could have averaged 20 with LeBron. So all in all, you're a moron who is very wrong.

3rd options like Klay, Jrue, Harden, Worthy, or Parish averaged 20 ppg or could dominate when needed, whereas Lebron's 3rd options were turned into bums.
No teammates saw their stats increase during a tenure with Lebron, and the only player-type that he didn't reduce was elite shooters.. He literally never made anyone better - he just teamed up to have enough talent to win, and still mostly lost.. He mostly loses regardless of cast or coach - he never mostly wins regardless of cast or coach

This is dumb, Love as a 3rd option averaged around the same points as Parish did once he became a 3rd option.

Love was a spot-up role player, while Parish was viewed as a star that could dominate stretches when needed - no one called Parish a bum, while everyone calls Love a bum and cites his single-digit series.
By turning Love and Bosh into spot-up shooters, Lebron robbed them of the capacity to step up... For example, it would've been nice to see Bosh step up in the 14' Finals with Wade ailing, but Bosh was just a spot-up shooter, so he couldn't step up and the Heat were nowhere near their ceiling with Bosh reduced like that... hence 2/4 instead of "not 6, not 7"

Parish never averaged 20ppg as a 3rd option. Never averaged 20ppg ever for that matter. Jrue Holiday wasn't a 3rd option when he averaged 21.2 on the Pelicans. He was taking the 2nd most shots on the team after Davis. Trying to use James Harden as an example is just fukking idiotic. James Worthy was never the 3rd option in years he averaged 20 or more. Klay pretty much had the perfect game as a 3rd option as he doesn't do anything on his own off the dribble.

Parish was never reduced to a spot-up role - he was always a go-to player that created his own shot, or created mismatches and commanded doubles (just like Love before Lebron)..
Parish led the Celtics in scoring for the 82' Playoffs, and was 2nd behind Bird from 83-85'.. In 86', he averaged 16 on 54% as 3rd option and averaged 17 on 60% in the 87' Finals.. Unlike Love's reduced role, Parish was available to dominate when needed - he was never reduced to spot-up shooting role and was always a go-to player that created his own shot.
Before the Celtics fell off in 89', Parish's playoff numbers from 81-88' were 16/10 on 50%, while Love averages 15/10 on 40% for his playoff career (4 seasons of Lebron-ball) - Parish also smashes Love across the board in advanced stats (PER, WS/48, BPM, VORP).
And what about Pippen?
What would the internet say about a 2nd option averaging 17 on 41% for the entire 96-98' Playoffs (carried to a 3-peat), including multiple Finals of 15.7 on 40%?... Imagine if AD or Paul George put up those numbers - social media would say they aren't stars, and Pippen wasn't a star - his got accolades due to winning spotlight.. He's the definition of someone that got accolades due to winning (getting carried), but you guys ignore the facts - you just can't take those 6 rings blinders off - you love them things

Those two players weren't even on the Heat in that first year. And Ray Allen didn't arrive until 2013. And in 2014, Wade was a shell of his former self.
So basically, at full strength, the Heat are 2-0. It's not LeBron's fault they had literally nothing outside of the big three in 2011 and his all star teammates shat the bed in 2014 when he needed them the most.
Also also...2011-2013 Wade>Peak Pippen is possibly the most intelligence insulting statement I've ever read. Peak Pippen was a top 3 player in the NBA and almost lead his team to the finals. The absolute stupidity on display is something I simply cannot handle.

We're still playing this idiotic "LeBron turned Love into a spot up shooter" narrative? Again, it is well documented that it was David Blatt, not LeBron, who decided to have Love be a spot up four, because that was literally what he wanted when he first came to Cleveland. When he got fired and Lue took over, Love was pretty much done being a spot up four in 2017 in his first year under Lue when he averaged 19/11. Remember that post you made about third options averaging 20 PPG? Love literally almost did that in the one full year that Blatt wasn't around to reduce him to the stretch four role.

He is but it's not because of just playing with LeBron. His biggest mental health issues didn't even happen until after LeBron was already gone, and it seems like those issues have to do with the fact that he's coming to the realization that his best days are behind him and he's no longer the all star level player he used to be. Ingram and Lonzo spent only a season with Lebron and they were young allowing them to bounce back. The likes of AD though, Wade, Bosh, Love, Kuzma (he stayed longer with Lebron), they all declined.
As for Kyrie, remember the "Lebron as a father-figure" interview? He never really respected Lebron.
Yep Ingram and Lonzo both blossomed into quality players after the trade
I don't think it's too late for Kuzma, I think he will have a breakout season next year on the Wizards

Tell me Kevin Love is not mentally soft? Kevin Love in 2019-2020-2021 has been completely dreadful and the idiots in this thread blame Bron for "ruining him".
Damned if he plays with Love, damned when he doesn't play with Love.
Its cause and effect.
Obviously bran ball ruined Kevin Love. The Cavs with lebron tried to use Love like Klay. When Love was a WHITE GUY rebounding champion at 6'7. That's all time rare. He also was a PPP (points per possession) top scorer out of the post.
So yes lebron ball ruined him by making a player with vast talents into a Kyle Korver spot up role.

As in he'll just take more shots on a team that won't make the playoffs? That's not really blossoming. If he ever goes to a good team again (unlikely), he'll be right back on the bench.

It goes both ways.
Bron put up with a lot of shit from Kevin Love. Noticeably his awful defence and slow feet. Love and Kyrie were constantly run through pick and rolls by the opposing team due to their crap defence. Over and over and over.
First off, that's LeBron's own fault. He was the one who wanted Love to come to Cleveland, even if it meant giving up what looked like one of the most promising number one overall prospects in quite some time (even though I do contend now that trading for Love in the end was the right call). Second, any issues Love had at that end could have more than been made up for on offense, and yet time and time again, even when LeBron had the chance to feed Love down low, he didn't and never once went to Blatt and stated that he's better than being just a stretch four. I contend that Love being in the role he was in was more of a David Blatt issue than a LeBron issue, but LeBron did absolutely nothing to solve said issue and Lue had to be the one to make that change himself.
When Kyrie was no longer there in 2018, Kevin Love was supposed to "step up" and he never did. Didn't step up in 2019,2020,2021 either.
He never stepped up? 2018 Kevin Love was arguably the best version LeBron ever got. That was the season where he made a real and legit effort to be a better defensive player and it showed on the court. Was he ever all team worthy? Absolutely not. But all of those scenarios you just described; getting run through on pick and rolls, and being lit up inside like he used to be on a regular basis, that was all a thing of the past. Did it still happen? Sure, but not nearly to the extent that it was happening the year before.

So now we're going off of playoff stats?
Okay.
He had a very good series against Toronto, led Cleveland when LeBron was on the bench in game 7 of the first round and had arguably his best overall finals series against the Warriors.
But yeah, I'll give you the Boston series. He was complete and utter shite in that entire series apart from the first two games.

We go off playoff stats because that's the most important time.
I hate doing this but Kevin Love playoff average in 2018 was 15/10 on 40%FG and 34% from 3.
Very mediocre and I ain't trolling here. I watched those games. Kevin Love never had 1 great playoff game. Maybe 1. Game 2 vs Toronto.

Good post!

LeBron led the Cavaliers in the NBA finals with Daniel Gibson, and Kevin Love as his 2nd scoring option.

I am using his own logic against him to show how dumb his point is. Of course LeBron played on a super team before.
FYI, that second team wasn't a super team by any stretch of the imagination. And you might as well just call that third one a meme team at this point. The 2013 Miami Heat are the only legitimate super team he's ever played on.
The thing is any fancy names (even those who don't stand out anymore these days) his teams are going after for get highlighted usually, so the recruit stuff is kinda obvious with him somehow. And the most recent one is WB apparently.

Only Lebron formed 3 different super-teams - so he's the king of colluding, while KD is the prince (that will overtake the king)

Still better than being 1-9 without the 'role player' you're hating also.
