Oregon governor signs bill suspending math, reading requirements for HS grads (https://nypost.com/2021/08/10/oregon-gov-suspends-math-reading-requirements-for-hs-grads/?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=NYPFacebook&utm_medium=SocialFlow&sr_share=facebook&fbclid=IwAR26GESQ2pgunzEkXGcvWTzWCoAQaZRgm18rOR04M ykYBe2TtGb4OujlmgU

Gov. Kate Brown, the Oregon Democrat, signed a bill last month with little fanfare that drops the requirement that high school students prove proficiency in reading, writing or math before graduation, a report said.
No wonder they have an Antifa problem over there.

Sounds like the perfect state for rrr3. So what's the reasoning for this bill? Is math as racist as kblaze and the democrat party now?

Can I get a Liberal's perspective on this? Is this how they become more inclusive in the state of Oregon? By just graduating everyone and handing out diplomas like they were candy?
The Affirmative Action of the scholastic school system.

Yes, your people are just killing us with technology and with book smarts. The more we allow the heathens from south of the border in, the lower our combined IQ gets and the Democrats are all giddy cause they know the low-IQ voter will vote for them.
By the way, rice is good. Me like rice.

Is it any wonder that the rural parts of Oregon want to join Idaho? LOL. Bizzaroland.

This shouldn't be a surprise. Oregon has the 2nd highest dropout rate in the nation. Nearly 25% of their students don't graduate. Nevada did the same thing and their graduation rate got much better. The thinking is it's better to graduate drooling mouth breathers than let them walk away without a "degree". Expecting schools to graduate students who's parents don't give AF is considered racist. New Mexico has by far and away the worst graduation rate because of their indigenous people

Yep, the whole issue is “academic” (pun intended) since kids who cant read or do basic math by 12th grade arent going off to college or joining the white collar work force anyway. So it really makes no difference if they get a diploma or not. They can still pack boxes at an Amazon warehouse. This way Amazon can keep the diploma requirement, to make it seem like they have at least basic employment standards, when really theyre happy to stick anyone with two arms and a respiratory system onto an assembly line for 11 bucks an hour.
This is one of those issues Dems use to say “see, look, we’re liberal!” while continuing to support under the radar policies that keep the wealth balance where donors want it. It reassures the grassroots level leftist limp wrist that Big Dem really is the lesser of two evils, and it always works. As long as they do these marginal little things to distinguish themselves from the red side of the coin, the voting base will remain satisfied and deluded that they choosed right, and they are part of a teh progressive and superior crowd. And Dems never have to do anything meaningful on their behalf, bc “the meanie republicans” always end up looking worse by comparison to the pitiful partisan leftist.
Literally stuff like this is all it takes to keep them under thumb.
So be it. :confusedshrug:

That's really bad, though I know the really conservative states don't want evolution taught in school, so stupidity & lack of knowledge is for sure not exclusive to one party

Charles Boyle, the deputy communications director from Brown’s office, told the paper in an email that staff from the governor’s office informed legislative staffers about the bill’s signing on the day it was passed. He also said that the new standards for graduation will help benefit the state’s “Black, Latino, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color.”
The racism of liberals is truly mind boggling sometimes. The state claims minority kids will be helped by this bill because they are less likely to pass basic reading/writing/math requirements... so instead of doing things to help these minority kids that are struggling, Oregon politicians want to just send them out into the world without any of these basic skills.
I suspect the real reason for this new law is the fact that Oregon has been among the worst in the nation for every measureable metric for high schoolers for many years, and by ignoring pesky requirements like graduates being able to read/write the state might be able to climb from 45th/50 in education to 40th/50 or something
