I know it happens in the political realm but is some PR guy really (arguably) wasting his life creating all this drama about some sports personality? It almost seems unfathomable to me that there's people spending all day on various social media outlets propping up players without the players knowing the extent of what's going on.

I always thought the LeBron guys were just going at the MJ guys because the MJ nonsense went on for decades and it was mostly by people who don't really understand basketball. The guys that shoot a few shots every few years or likely haven't since they were in high school, watch a few games here and there but insist MJ is the GOAT..Apart from liking LeBron's game that's my reason for sometimes throwing shade anyway. It's occasionally funny.

I also liked MJ but see the difference in styles.

It's just shit talk vs shit talk imo.

The user base isn't big enough for someone to pay someone else to conduct psychological cyber warfare here or keep people coming back because the amount paid would not justify the amount of people reached. The user base is just way too small. That type of shit happens on reddit and 4chan all the time, however.

And Jordan had a 40-point game in the playoffs 1 in every 4 games, so his highlights and great games would be the most frequent postings on social media.. Social media would reveal Jordan for the goat he was because his dominance would be more scrutinized - no one would think Pippen guarded Magic in 1991 Finals, because everyone would know that Jordan guarded Magic for the vast majority of that series... That's just a simple example... Pippen's defense would get exposed every time his man went off on him (which was a lot)...

All the shit that I post would be on social media after every game.. We wouldn't need to go on bballref to see that Pippen averaged 15.7 on 40% in multiple Finals, or that only Jordan averaged 10 more than his sidekick in every series of his career (while everyone else had teammates match or exceed their scoring for entire playoff runs).. It's not unreasonable for him to think Wilt is the GOAT. coastal backs it up with statistics, analysis, sound logic, and detail, something most other posters don't do on this forum. We don't have to agree with him, but his posts aren't without merit. He also puts together some pretty damn good analysis and posts about other players/teams.

There is a context to that and I understand where him and other posters are coming from. There is some truth to it, but it is de-contextualized within the same arguments that they make.

The argument is used to discredit MJ. The problem is it doesn't discredit him on an individual, statistical level or with team accomplishments for two reasons.

1) MJ played in the era of stacked rosters during the 80s, pre-expansion. His last season prior to expansion, he won the MVP, DPOY, All-Defensive 1st Team, All-NBA 1st Team, and put up 35/6/6/3/2 on 54%. He led his team to 50 wins and the ECSF with meager assistance from his cast, so not having expansion doesn't suddenly stop or limit MJ's performance; we saw what he was able to do before it. It's just ludicrous to assume that.

A continuation of that in the 90s with peak Pippen, Grant, Armstrong, etc doesn't stop that trend from moving upward, and Chicago likely wins titles anyway.

2) Having no expansion pre-supposes that every team gets an additional superstar/all-star/star/solid role player except for Chicago. It doesn't work that way. Chicago gets the same shot at draft picks, free agents, and trades as everyone else. So it's not entirely impossible for Chicago to end up with a Shareef Abdur-Rahim or Rony Seikaly, for example.

In this way, the Bulls become even more stacked or at least more refined at key positions. This is why the argument fails on multiple levels.
