Without better data on the subject we won't know how to respond. The trouble is it's in no one's immediate interest to fund any research on this topic. I'm very invested in preventing the loss of ecosystems. I think we need to reduce fish consumption. We need to stop deforestation. But these are all things that would scale back revenues without replacing them, which is why theyre not priority issues in our government.

Replacing old energy sources with new green technology is a big investment opportunity for those with the means to get in early, and therefore the idea of "global warming threatening populations across the globe" is the way these profit models are marketed. Global warming isnt threatening shit any time soon. We're fishing sharks out of the ocean way faster than global warming is doing anything to them. We're destroying habitats to build condos and parking lots much faster than global warming's gonna do it.

But theres no profit to be made in just... not building stuff, and reducing consumption. It's all about replacing old technology with solar panels and electric cars and all sorts of things that can be manufactured. Hence the exaggerated emphasis on global warming, as a means of catalyzing public adoption of these big investments.

There might be some rise due to the density levels of the water in the ice as opposed to in the ocean, I'm not educated enough to discuss such things, but it won't be catastrophic.

Catastrophic is, again, the ice on the land melting and going into the oceans.

In any event, climate change is a joke of a topic... in the sense that, there is never ever going to be widespread agreement and execution among all countries to do the necessary behavioral changes.

You are correct that development at the fundamental level is not always driven by profit. Profits come into the picture once you have stability in living conditions and people able+willing to spend.

Look at a poor country like say Ethiopia or Uganda - people are barely able to feed themselves, let alone have political or financial stability. Their concerns are much more fundamental-based. Once you get beyond a small subset of wealthy individuals, their people are not concerned with profits more so than simply staying afloat. They are making fundamental decisions that would enable them to feed their families in extreme environments and to improve conditions enough for one day where the focus can eventually be on growing profits. They are not there yet though and could be decades away from stability, but until then, they do what they can to make their ends meet as a society.

For international corporations doing business there, their profit margins will be extremely slim working in Uganda compared to Chicago or Tokyo or London. If they were focused purely on profits, they should only do business in those developed countries. What ends up happening is they scale down the cost of the item/service to the location where they are doing business. Profit margin drops but they still profit something. Something better than nothing. It's a long-term investment that they hope will pay off down the road.
