View Full Version : Jalen Green: I didn't want to be in Detroit

"I wanted to be the No. 1 pick, but as for the location, I didn't want to be in Detroit," Green told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. "I felt a lot more comfortable in Houston. It felt like a real homie environment. With Detroit, it felt like I was just going back to the G League bubble, and I just got out of the bubble. That's pretty much what it was."
"In the (G League) bubble, I didn't really have anything to do but just stay in the gym. I didn't have any time to get away for myself. The only time I had to get away for myself was in my apartment. That's what it felt like in Detroit. I wouldn't be stepping outside in Detroit. There are not many things you can do in Detroit like that. You're going to stay in the gym and then go back to your apartment."

Jalen Green has game for sure. but jesus christ what a baby back bitch :oldlol: scared to go outside in downtown Detroit, even tho it's hipster-y and nice now.
frankly stuff like this makes me so happy we took Cade. he is light years more mature than JG. i feel like JG is gonna be an influencer-type star. anything to drive clicks/views/etc. he will overtake KD as most social media-obsessed player ever. JG busy hating on Detroit while Cade is a 19 yr old leader of men: https://streamable.com/6uodu0

Don't blame him. I remember Draymond going back to Michigan for a visit and he quickly got himself in some altercation or other. Some loser wanting to puff up his own ego picking a fight with Draymond. If going somewhere in life, better to avoid.

that was in East Lansing you dumdum. which is a college town and 100% not Detroit. and that kind of shit literally happens to every college athlete when they return to campus.

Jalen Green has TikTok-level style and TikTok-level maturity. if Green is TikTok, Cade is JSTOR.

Complete opposite personality of Cade, whose went out of his way to acclimate himself not just to the city but culture as well. Going to be an interesting ROTY competition this year.

It would be better for his career if he had nothing to do but go to the gym and work on his game

Dude needs to shut up already. Keep crying about not being the #1 pick even though it doesn't even matter. If you're happy where you are, than enjoy your time. No point in shitting on another city. Will root against this loudmouth for his entire career going forward.

You say that as if there was ever a chance in hell that Cade wasn't going #1

I’d have to think those feelings would be shared by most of America if they were polled. Houston isnt my favorite city but it’s so gigantic you could never be bored unless you wanted to be. Even without athlete money.
With the money anywhere can be fun I’m sure but a young athlete wanting Houston over Michigan feels pretty natural.
He doesn't think that playing for an eastern team means a better chance of getting in the playoffs, even with a paltry losing record.

It's basically the same. Watch some doc on Detroit. I wouldn't want to be there as a rookie either if thevteam itself doesn't show any promise.

Exactly.
VERY few athletes in history have had the mental toughness to not only embrace Cleveland, but to make her a promise that he will deliver her a championship, and to FULFILL that very promise in unprecedented fashion.

I like watching Green play, he’s going to be a good player for a long time. But he’s immature and this isn’t really a good look.
Personally, I have spent a significant amount of time in most of the NBA cities in my lifetime. And I probably wouldn’t have Detroit or Houston at the top of my list.
But it’s all about taste and most cities have their strong points for everyone if you can afford it ...
My buddies and I used to rank the cities in order we would most like to live and argue and what would be better.
I’m partial to warm weather, the outdoors, etc. I think the only NBA cities I haven’t spent a lot of time in are Detroit, Cleveland and Washington DC. It’s been 30 years since I’ve been to a few such as Chicago and Boston.
1 - Miami. Not even close IMO
2 - LA
3 - Denver
4 - NY
4 - Brooklyn
5 - Orando
6 - Golden State if that meant just the general area.
7 - NO
8 - Phonenix
8 - Atlanta
9 - Charlotte
10 - Toronto
11 - Utah
12 -

Feels like he'll just try to bail on his team when things don't go his way.

Lol at the punk ass bitches whining about this! Jalen is entitled to his opinions.
I also would hate to live in a wack ass city like Detroit. I'm gonna root for him even harder. I love players who aren't afraid of voicing their opinions and who can perform at a high level while having a lot of haters (LeBron, KD, Harden, Kyrie, etc.).
Jalen Green haters are immature soy boys.

Weird, I thought you would love Detroit considering it's ran by woke liberals.

The city is drab and boring as hell (just like many other cities in the midwest).
Cities on the coast are vastly superior IMO.

2 questions - when was the last time you were in Detroit, and where are you from?
also, the irony of calling someone criticizing Jalen Green immature... lol

first of all, Houston is essentially a big ass parking lot surrounded by suburbs that is always at 90% humidity. Houston is not popping.
second of all, this thread isn't about the quality of the city. it's about how Jalen Green's immaturity makes it clear Cade was the right pick for us. JG talks more about Detroit than he does Houston :oldlol: meanwhile Cade is showing up at Tiger games, rocking local designer clothing/Cartier buffs, etc. he's the hero we need. super happy we didn't end up with Jalen Green, the TikTok all-star.

many of y'all missing the fact that not every young fella needs a warm weather city with an influencer-heavy club scene. i mean, you have months of offseason where you can live and train in the bay if you choose. some dudes aren't about it, and that's frankly who i want on my team. Stafford might be a bad example because he never won us anything (tho that is more due to FO ineptitude than it is his fault) but look at dude. he stayed in Detroit in the offseason. he had some grit and some appreciation for the grind. that's something i appreciate.

Just because someone likes a city like Detroit doesn't necessarily mean that that person has grit and/or appreciation for the grind. Your logic is retarded.
That would be like me saying that someone who likes Michigan also likes lead-filled water.

Detroit's better than 10 years ago when it was a shithole. But you can't compare that city to coastal cities in the US, they dominate for good reason. Best thing about this it adds some spice when the two teams meet up this year.
As someone who wouldn't want to be there either all things considered he should be blessed to be apart of any nba team regardless. This is what you signed up for and one day perhaps he might be in that situation where he has no choice. We've seen this story plenty of times play out.

You may be missing the fact that virtually everyone praises the city they are drafted to and even those who don’t still have agents, publicists, and staff who teach them how to behave. It says little about what he wants. 95% of the people bailing praised the market they were in before they did it. Total nothing. Not a sign of anything really. I’d say the same thing if I were drafted by any team. It just makes sense. You’re there 4 years at least and 7-8 if you sign your first extension(as everyone does to secure themselves for life). Why not play nice and go to some games?
Its an athlete being an athlete. It says nothing about what they actually desire. Kyrie, Paul George, Durant, Lebron and 75 other examples tell us that.
They will say and do anything when it’s advantageous just like teams will.
