A defensive peak of holding Mark Jackson to his regular season stats is a pathetic peak

And Pippen didn't dominate any of those series - his poor performance nearly caused a massive upset in the 98' ECF (16 on 39%).. Then he quit in the FInals - it's almost like he's sabatoging these series via the so-called "migraine" that lost the Bulls the 1990 title.. Then the X-man debalcle nearly derailed the repeat in 92' ECSF.. Then his worst-ever effiicency in the 93' Playoffs and Finals forced Mj to average a ridiculous 41.. Then he tries to lose the 96' title by getting destroyed by Schrempf in the Finals.. Then there's the aforementioned 98' FInals where he quit, just like the 94' ECSF and 00' WCF.

Even though the 09' Cavs have better regular season metrics than the 91' Bulls, no one argued that the 09' Cavs were as good as the 91' Bulls.. How could they be - look what happened in the playoffs - the Cavs had no clue how to play effective basketball and let Dwight get to the Finals.. Now what was infact argued in my posts was that the 09' Cavs were better than the 90' Bulls and ample stats were provided to confirm that fact.. This comparison is relevant because Jordan essentially came from behind to beat Lebron to titles - the 09' Cavs had a big head start on the 90' Bulls, yet Jordan beat him to titles... By a mile.

Otoh, the team that compared well to the 91' Bulls was the 10' Cavs, who added a 3rd scorer that the bulls never had. plus a serviceable Shaq, while maintaining an equal defensive rating to the Bulls.. Those Cavs should've won the title and were favored to do so, which is the whole point - Lebron lost a bunch as the favorite, including multiple losses to 1-star teams, while Jordan never lost as the favorite (the 90' Bulls were big underdogs to a dynasty).

Dude... Smits outplayed Pippen. They produced on equal volume and smits had a massive shot making advantage. I just gave you so many critical series that ended in titles where Pippen was outplayed. MJ could've easily won with stacked Blazers, Suns, Sonics, and Jazz teams. Pippen was a tag along. Actually, the Sonics' best players weren't traditional Cousy-like ball-dominators.. They were rich-man's Pippen's - aka guys that could dominate from the forward position with scoring and/or elite shooting/playmaking - Kemp and Schrempf - both destroyed Pippen in the 96' Finals and were more sophisticated players that cover more eras...

Pippen averaged 15.7 on 34% against that kind of futuristic talent, which is the worst ever for a winning sidekick, similar to his worst-ever BPM in the 93' Playoffs and worst-ever TS in the 93', 96' and 98' Playoffs.. 16 on 50% fg isn't horrible, but 16 on 39% is completely wetting the bed and Pippen was often in the latter category.

Ultimately, Pippen was a bum and most people in the 90's knew this, but the winning spotlight gave him accolades without anyone scrutinizing his actual performance or holding him accountable for winning and losing..

He simply arrived at the right time after the super-team 80's - expansion spread the talent around evenly in the 90's so 2-star teams could win, and anyone wins alongside the GOAT in a 2-star vs 2-star format - so Pippen was the biggest beneficiary of the 90's parity format by playing alongside the best player.

That's why I posted the statistical gaps between Dirk and Terry during the 2011 Playoffs versus the gaps between MJ and Pippen on their 6 runs - gap between Dirk/Terry is much smaller than the MJ/Pippen gap and Terry's advanced stats on that run compare to most of Pippen's runs - so it's a massive insult to call jordan's 6 rings "dirk" rings or "kawhi" rings - jordan's rings were clearly in a class of their own from a statistical burden standpoint.

Payton is Kyle Lowry in today's game, while Kemp and Schrempf are like Kawhi and Tatum... or something... honestly, there's no real comparison because Kemp is like a combination of Kawhi and Zion, while Schrempf combines Tatum/Brogdon or even Michael Porter Jr

Ultimately, spotty shooters without elite breakdown ability off-the-dribble like Pippen or Payton would be role players in today's game like Jeff Green or Lowry.. Otoh, a lot of the dominant forwards of previous eras like Glenn Robinson or Schrempf stack up quite well as scorers in today's game because they grew up doing the footwork and jumphooks that are considered luxuries in today's game and high levels that players develop into.

The primary responsibility or a 2nd option scorer is to score (and hopefully without wetting the bed with horrific efficiency)

A 2nd option scorer that fails this 2nd option scoring role is essentially a defensive role player, and Pippen bobbed like a fishing reel above and below this line.. This was Pippen's caliber, aka slightly better than slasher types like Horry, Hughes, or J Green, whose peaks in various seasons or big series easily matched Pippen's prime standard..

Again, no amount of defense or 5 APG can offset 17 on 41% trash from a 2nd option scoring role on a 3-peat team.. Unfortunately, the on-paper evaluations of new fans only see the 6 rings and inflate him.

Show me a season where Jordan attempted more than bailout volume and didn't shoot well

He wasn't taking 5 threes a game at 33% like Westbrook or Lebron - anytime he took more than 1.5 attempts (bailout volume), he shot at least 35-43%

The reality is that you should look at Jordan's sweet jumpshot or goat form and think "wow, what if that stroke got in a rhythm (volume) from deep".. and then shrug your shoulders and go about your day.

Ultimately, Jordan's career percentage is sub-par only because he shot bailout volume nearly every year of his career - he shot less than 1.5 attempts every year (bailout volume), except a few years where he shot 3-4 attempts at 35-43%.. He also won the 93' title by shooting 40% on 4 attempts in those playoffs.. If he played in today's high-screen format that gets threes for the ball-handler and kickouts to shooters, he would get 5-10 attempts per game and get hot all the time.
