5,000-10,000 Americans stuck in Kabul - unclear how many stuck outside the city

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby estimated between 5,000 and 10,000 Americans are stuck near Kabul after the rapid takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban, in an interview on CNN on Tuesday morning.

Asked how many Americans he believed are currently in Afghanistan, Kirby said on CNN’s New Day, “Well, we think there are certainly thousands of Americans, we don’t have an exact count, I would say somewhere — best guess between 5- and 10,000 that are near Kabul.”

It is unclear how many more Americans are in Afghanistan who are not near Kabul.

Unfortunately this is looking less and less like a problem of "incompetence" as this level of failure is so astronomical it looks to me like we failed on purpose. Who knows for what reason. Anyone who's being intellectual honest knows Biden is in a freefalling cognitive state and he's not making the decisions. Removing him will be for optics and won't change anything if it happens imo.

They have known since like March that American soldiers are pulling out by September 1. Why did they stay outside of Kabul for this long?? It's not like this evacuation was announced a few days ago out of the blue one morning..

Perhaps they, like the current Americans stuck in/near Kabul, couldn't evacuate whatever region they were in because our military presence withdrew and the Taliban took over before they had the chance or means to evacuate? Either that or they aren't very bright. Also consider there are Americans who are actually in Kabul, but can't get to the city's airport. That's how bad it is right now.
