They were doing some rookie hazing. And McDaniel was Gary Payton's mentor. He was making breakfast for McDaniel at 6 am, and carrying their luggages. Payton decided to stop doing it. One day at practice Mcdaniel confronted him at the center of the court. Payton told him what are you going to do about? I won't be paying any of this $hit. Mcdaniel said young man. You haven't done any $hit. He wanted him to finish his rookie hazing.. Payton continue trash talking. And Xavier McDaniel put him in a sleeper's hold in front of their teammates. He said he almost loss consciousness. Gary Payton completed his rookie hazing.
