Hes one of the most polished scorers in the game and hes a great passer. I mean ok, hes not a great defender and he hasn't achieved much in the playoffs but that shouldn't be enough for the hate he gets. He scores efficiently and is unselfish, so why isnt he given credit for his game?

He was a below average passer until the Spurs changed his role/position. That plus his lack of range makes it hard to fit him in. I wouldn't say he's hated, but he got a lot of disrespect for playoff performance on the Raptors.

Because he was always bad in the playoffs.

Watch him during the closing minutes of a tight game when your team is depending on him to win and you'll have your answer within a handful of games.
I'm a Spurs fan so the transition from extremely smart guardplay in Manu and pretty smart guardplay in Parker to completely braindead, Imma-find-a-new-way-to-piss-this-game-away DeRozan was torture. Every time I thought I had seen everything he came up with something fn new.

Love his game. The way he moves, his footwork, I freaking love watching this guy on offense

OP, no hate at all, but more just curious about your fanship of mediocre players like Derozan, Derrick Rose, Jabari Parker if I'm not mistaken. I know there are others but can't remember them all.
Why the need to stick up for scoring players that barely move the needle for most franchises?

Lived through his time here. We Raptors fans can agree to this.

Im sure he's lead the Raptors to the ECF and lost to the Lebron lead Cavs that went on to win that year. That's not a bad run.

I dont think it's that he's disliked, I think people just rightfully acknowledge that he's the exact caliber of player MJ would be if he played in the league today. That's all.
No hate. Just honesty.

His style of play is simply not suitable for winning. Yes he's a great scorer but he relies heavily on the mid range game. He's not tall and long enough to be a truly effective defensive player. He's a great passer but lacks legitimate playmaking abilities.
His biggest downfall however will always be his lack of playoff success. It's not even the fact that he's been eliminated from the playoffs time and time again. Guys like Chris Paul went through the same thing and it didn't affect him as much. It's the fact that his exits were so embarrassing and that he never even came close to making an NBA finals. Even when he managed to make an Eastern Conference Finals, it always felt like he never had any realistic shot at making it. The best chance he ever had was 2018, and he got swept by LeBron and the Cavs in the Semis. And the biggest kick in the balls in all of this is when he was traded away for Kawhi Leonard, who in his one and only season with Toronto, led them to a championship win. And this was all in the year where LeBron left the East, and that very same Raptors team saw the rise of Siakam and VanVleet, and got Marc Gasol in trades. They did DeRozen DIRTY. I sometimes feel like they should have sent that man a championship ring out of pity because he technically didn't qualify for one.

But his last series in Toronto was getting swept and performing terribly on an individual level. You can lose while playing your ass off and still get acknowledged, but Derozan didn't go out like that. And I want to root for this guy. I've read stories about him just being the nicest guy on reddit and I believe on here also. Trust me, I'm not out here trying to get him. And he signed with my team this year so I'm quite invested in him from a fan standpoint.

He was very inconsistent for supposed "the guy". Most non-Lebron's-Cavs series during Trash Bros Era usually went to game 6. For a team considering the 2nd best in the East at the time, they should have done better.

I just looked up his last year in Toronto. He beat the Bucks in 5 who had giannis / Middleton both already 20+ ppg players In the first round. Then in the semis he was swept. There was a game where he scored only 5points in 31mins but then there was a game he scored 37..How does this happen???

I think people had higher expectations of him a few years ago but no one hates the guy. He's a good player. Not a great first option or anything though.

I think DDR lacks the lateral quickness and reflexes mores than Size. If he had Kobe agility and quickness he'd be a way better defender and a much more impactful player overall.

I think Derozan is more disrespected than he is disliked, mostly for the reasons already mentioned above.
I think he's had better longevity than your hero op.

Anyone with a brain knew those Toronto teams weren't legit.

Why is Derozan criticized for relying on the midrange game when hes more efficient than for example Kawhi from there? It should be an advantage not a disadvantage. And unlocking his playmaking potential recently should be enough to compensate for his defensive weakness.

Because some thought he was gonna be the next Kobe... and he fell far below that. It's not his fault, he's a decent player but he hasn't had much impact in terms of winning even regular season games, Lowry was the engine on the Raps.

Because Kawhi can also play GOAT level defense. Their difference in efficiency is negligible. They're basically just as efficient as each other from midrange. Kawhi is a much better 3 point shooter and off-ball mover.
