I really think that the two seasons after the Colorado season were Kobe's peak years. Kobe's career trajectory seemed to really be like Jordan's as late as 2003. If I were in his situation, I'd become depressed because my legacy would always be tainted by this accusation and fearful of going to prison. I would barely be able to get up in the morning. It's clear that Kobe's performance was affected by the rape trial for a number of years and that the 2005-06 season was when he was able to move on.

But I think Kobe lost something for the rest of his career. He wasn't the same player after 2003.

The 2003 season was special. If Kobe had his own team in 2003 he might have averaged 37 ppg. We were seeing a player who was already really good take it to the next level - to a level that was clearly equal to Michael Jordan. The 2003 Kobe was as good as prime Jordan.

So I think the Kobe rape case was a tragedy not just for everyone involved but for basketball, because I think it stunted his growth. He still became one of the top 20 players but if it never happened I believe he would have been even better.

I think Kobe would have become a 40% three point shooter and become a three point specialist later in his career and would have won multiple MVPs and 7 or more championships. I think he would have won like 7 scoring titles..
