View Full Version : Do the San Antonio Spurs/Popovich need Ben Simmons ?

So, Popovich went ahead and said he is trying to the all the all-time winning coach in history next year. To be fair, it is quite easy, he is literally almost there, he only needs 26 wins (behind Don Nelson) which is basically guaranteed.

But I'm sure he doesn't want to be remembered as this all-time coach who had a great 20+ year and then stunk it up his last few years. PS for whoever has been living under a rock: Spurs haven't make the playoffs now in multiple consecutive years.

I have a solution for him. TRADE for BEN SIMMONS. Like that:

- You get your 26 wins next year and BOOM, your the all time best coach
- You will the franchise with a 25 year old Beast that hasn't unlocked his full potential yet.

What do you guys think ?

I can see Pop unlocking Simmons... but it does seem like a lot of work and headaches for a coach that prob wants to retire into the sunset any year now.

Do you really think its a lot of work? I think 1 year of Pop influence on Simmons wont go a long way in his career.

Like that he goes into the sunset, leaving the franchise with a bonified star with huge potential vs. what they have now (Murray, D white...) ?

Give us keldon and Derrick white and draft picks and whatever trash you need to add to make the money work and it’s a deal

Have fun “unlocking Simmons’s hidden potential” :oldlol: lakers in 4

IMO winningest coach is a BS title. Coach long enough and really, even year after year of decent wins one can attain it.

Win ratio IMO is a better indicator for a coaches career.

Phil, Pop, Pat Riley, Jerry Sloan and Red are all on a different tier..

Word was filtering out that Simmons views himself as a socialite in need of an active night scene. That's obviously a nonstarter in S.A. If the Spurs get wind that that's true there's no way they waste time trying to rehabilitate him after losing Nephew the way they did.

So are you saying Lebron James becoming the all-time scorer in NBA history is nothing ?

It isn't easy to stay a head coach in the league and specially for that long - so I'm sure it counts for something ?

Hahaha

Man the guy has one bad playoff run and you want to throw him away ?

If I were the 76ers GM, I would give him a chance at least to redeem himself. But apparently, the dude isn't even calling them back

yeah, for $10m a year to come off the bench and do a Boris Diaw impression.

Well, a long career means you were a good coach. If you are a decent coach you will get fired over and over again and struggle to keep yourself in the league.

Another terrible video from OP.

Simmons going to an irrelevant shithole like that hahahahha this isn't 2005. That would be a huge waste of time for both sides.

No wonder kawhi left them, its been 4 years without him and they haven't even come close to winning a playoff series and back to back years of no playoffs. Why the hell would Simmons want to go to a rathole like that.

Anyways, go ahead and trade your shitty bust lottery picks for Simmons. It wouldn't do shit. Simmons would only be valuable on a contender and great shooting team like kawhi's clippers

Not really... I mean there are a ton of coaches who've been around and are not competent one way or another. I mean Alvin Gentry, Mike D'antoni both come to mind...

Sloan is on a different tier for having job security like no other?

Nothing on Spurs intrigues me.

They haven't been the same the last couple of years.

When Pop becomes the all time winningest coach, I wouldn't put him as the best All time but probably second behind Phil Jackson.

Thoughts ?
