View Full Version : Know who it would suck to be stuck on an island guarding?

Obvious answer for normal ballers is….anyone in the nba. But I’m talking who would make it look the worst.

I wouldn’t pick any of the stars. People would understand and couldn’t really clown you. Elite defenders his size can’t guard Kevin Durant. So why would I be clowned if he makes a shot? He doesn’t even get open. He has some of that Dirk style shot making where he just nails it on your perfect defense and everyone knows there’s nothing you can do.

Really….KD owns you? Who cares. That’s KD.

As explained in the Boondocks…..

Some people taking your ho is just….the way it goes. “Hey….that’s TI” as Riley put it.

I’m not so upset if KD, Harden, Kyrie….a guy like Kobe…someone like that…scores.

And a lot of role players it’s just whatever….guy is better than I am. Wouldn’t make you look bad so much as display how good he is. The two nba players I personally guarded several times made their shots but you don’t just look like an idiot. They just shoot at an insane level but it doesn’t look like anything but a normal person getting hot. You just realize that isn’t hot…that’s their normal.

But know who really makes people look bad? Or did at least?

Tyreke Evans. Evans makes you look like you don’t know what you’re doing. He leaves defenders flat footed and just walks by:

He’s athletic but no so athletic it makes your efforts seem futile. If you can’t guard Giannis because he steps by you and throws his whole shoulder in the rim before you react….whatever. That’s a superhero.

Evans is of reasonable athletic ability that you can compete with. But he’s just breaking you down so disrespectfully.

I might “forget” to switch on the screen and stay with my man before getting left by myself at 26 feet vs that guy.

That last drug test saved a lot of ankles. I assume he’s just gone forever. And flat footed defenders are pleased.

I’m really not sure how to describe his game with other people. He’s not a poor mans wade….more like a rich mans Lance Stephenson….with a drop of Jamal Crawford and a pinch of Manu with some imitation DWade extract mixed in for flavor. Weird game….but I liked it. I wish he ended up on a contender for a good long career as a 6th man. Lou Williams type.

For me it would be Pike. He'd rain threes all day and get the oohs and ahhs when he blows by me for a finish at the rack because nobody gonna expect that athleticism from a dude looking like him at first glance. I'd be demoralized. That polish rifle would beat me in every imaginable way and there's nothing I could do to stop any of it.

I’m sure he would but I wouldn’t be that demoralized. Just a case of somebody being bigger and way too polished from a lifetime of reps. Shammond Williams is half that size and he busts everybody ass but it’s not embarrassing. It’s just like….I see what all that working does. You feel like you’re guarding him well he just makes the shot anyway. Happens vs normal people….it just happens on virtually every touch for him.

Tyreke? I’d remember the way he scores. I’m still mad my cousin absolutely destroyed me on a move on an outdoor dirt court in like 1993. I got shook to the netherworld and damn near did a split…always a fear playing on dirt. I can still vividly remember the feeling of uselessness.

Evans I’m sure would repeat that….like…18 times.

I was thinking back to my playing days about the question when I picked piatkowski. The guy who could drill outside shots at will from any distance always get the deepest into my head. You're right though, I wasn't accounting for how much bigger he is than me, only that he wasn't a superstar.

Seems like he learned to do all that to avoid having to finish with his weak hand. After his rookie year, folks figured out to sit on his strong hand. He started getting blocked at the rim a lot after his rookie year. Over time he kind of improved at this.

A normal person trying to guard Schroder would be fun to watch. Too fast and is way stronger than he looks.

Trick question

If i'm stuck on an island i'd want to pick the tallest, most athletic player to gather as many coconuts as possible for survival.

I don't have the clips to prove it, but someone like Rod Strickland as well.

The main reason tyreke evans was good was his athleticism. A big guard with handles. That's why he peaked early and sucked later. Once he was figured out he had no mental adjustment. John wall type but poor version.

He put up 19/5/5 and shot 40% from 3 on 5.5 attempts a game in 2018 then got banned the next season. I don’t think he was “figured out” that offseason. He was never some great player but he could score. They never really took that from him.

As a PG I kind looked at him like Penny .
But teams started thinking he could not defend hard the 1 so they slide him down to the 3.
From there is jumper took over , defense so-so and his slashes were all most non- existent ...
Kblaze is right he would fit into a 6th man position with the right team.

MJ

only because I know that psycho would find a way to build a boat and get us off that island so he can go golfing again.

Someone like a prime kemba would really just frustrate me and make me say “**** this”. I can just imagine him sizing up and jab stabbing you laughing then just blowing by you and doing fancy layups.I could also see him stopping and going baiting you to jump and contest his jumper making you look like a damn fool, repeatedly making you jump off stop and goes like he’s about to shoot but keeping his dribble alive, then blowing by you and dunking randomly when he never even dunks.

Edit just seen someone say Schroeder…exactly lol ppl like him who are cat like quick could reallly clown you if they wanted to.I could even see someone like a Schroeder posting you up and pushing you directly under the basket and laying it up easy just to show you he could bully you and score anytime he wants but he prefers to cook you off the dribble anyway

Little I.t would do all the above too I change my answer to him….in his prime

A lot of folks expected him to become a great player, and there was a lot of reason to.

The guy I wouldn't want to guard is Earl Boykins. I've never been clowned by anyone that much shorter than me.

The main 5 for me would be Kawhi, Shaq, Durant, Jordan, Dirk.

Shaq because he elbows you and bullys you the whole time.

Kawhi\Durant\Dirk because their length and shooting ability.

then of course Jordan which doesn't really need an explanation.

Now if Ben Simmons was scoring all over me, then I'd just quit playing ball.
