Regular season MVP.
Same as Westbrook I guess
Regular season MVP.
Do you mean when he averaged 25 ppg playing on the #1 defensive team?

At age 22, Rose was named the youngest MVP in NBA history (22 years and 191 days old on the final day of the regular season; previously Wes Unseld, in 1969, was 23 years and 9 days). He became the second Bulls player in team history to snag an MVP, joining former five-time MVP winner Jordan.

So he was really young when the journalists liked him. Is that all?

Good post. Being 22 & winning MVP is nothing to sneeze at. For reference, that was LeBron's age in 2006 - and he was just three years into the league.

Is that not a significant accomplishment? Rose also made 1st team All-NBA that year. Above pointguards like prime Chris Paul, Westbrook, Rondo & Nash. At 22 that sounds significant to me.

Does an MVP winner have any significant accomplishments? Hard to say

There have been 34 basketball players that have ever won an NBA MVP. He has one, and was the youngest to ever do that.
If you don’t think that that’s a significant accomplishment, then why didn’t you just make the thread title “does Derrick Rose have any rings?”
Or a ring/FMVP combination.

exactly. It's the dumbest and most pointless award. It's narrative driven, guys like Iverson\Westbrook\Rose never deserved it.
The only MVP that counts is finals MVP because it's the biggest playoff series and shows how clutch you are, also it's less narrative driven because there's only 7 different games to pick from.
Kawhi would have 3 reg season MVPS if rachael nichols liked him (2016, 2017, 2020).

To be fair, there have been some dubious Fmvps too. But I agree that westbrick/rose Mvps dont count for much.
Like, you guys are being all indignant ITT, but convince me that if the 2010 Warriors were the #1 defense (instead of #29), and Monta Ellis tore his ACL in 2011, people wouldnt be saying the exact same shit about him.
Hey! He was only 24, he mightve started averaging 30 soon!!!

2016 spurs had a better net rating then the 73 win warriors and kawhi had nobody on his team as good as Draymond or Klay
2017 Kawhi was #1 in RAPTOR
2020 he didn't end up playing much less total minutes than Giannis and everybody with a brain knows that Kawhi is a better player then Giannis (similar defense and way better offense).
So like i said, if clueless idiots like Rachael Nichols voted for Kawhi, he should rightfully have 3 MVPS right now.

I heavily disagree about 2016 but it shouldve been closer than "literally unanimous"

There hasn't been a player like Rose with that kind of speed, athleticism, skill and grace. He was a phenomenon in 2011, something never before seen. But thats not even his biggest achievement, its the fact that he completeley reinvented his game to compensate for what the injuries took from him, and hes still producing at an elite level. Rose is an inspiration among his peers. Thats how you know what he accomplished.

In the age of great point guards and several HOFers nearly the same age (Curry, Westbrook, John Wall, Chris Paul, Kyrie and at that time Deron Williams) Tyreke Evans had just come off of one of the greatest rookie PG seasons, Chris Paul and Deron Williams were slanted to be among the best ever. Nash was still leading the league in assist, Kidd had one of his best years, Billups had just came off his best year, Rondo just hits his prime. Tony Parker is in the hey day of his prime. Wall and Lowery make the Hall of Fame if they don't get injured. So we are talking about a super rare time of about 10 HOFers at one position. Rose won MVP as the youngest ever and had great defensive stands against all of these great PG's. He also had a great defensive stand against DWade in the playoffs. He also lead a young team with plenty of injuries to key personelle to the best record in the league which is also very rare.

There's a huge middle ground between being bad and producing at an "elite" level...
