Fun little fact: In 1988 , Jordan had 131 blocks for the season.

131 blocks in 2021 would've been good enough for 4th in the league

4th!!!!

Embarrassing interior defense in this era

Capela had 129 for reference

Does he win more than 41 games a season without a Pippen? :lol

I think he would play point guard in today's league and dominate the ball a lot more

Think of a 6'6 Westbrook with way better shooting and way better defense and IQ

I can see him averaging 35/8/8 off high efficiency with elite defense

If the defense today is lax Jordan played under Stone Age defensive schemes with limited spacing with no zone or double teams allowed. Jordan spent the better of his prime cooking Danny Ainge and Byron Russell one on one, he’d crumble against modern defenses and be similar to DeMar Derozan due to his inability to adapt and develop a jumpshot.

So Pippen played that season plus playoffs.

Gotcha.

Capela had 129 for referenceIf we all want to clown on the current era for no defense and how easy it is to score with the current rules, we also in turn have to acknowledge defensive stats are harder to come by. Mutombo's 4 bpg would only by 2.8 or something like that because some would've been fouls instead. You can't give a straight boost to one and not the other.

Jordan would score more and get more rebounds though. He'd score more due to the perimeter friendly rules and he'd get more boards because with the amount of long range shots taken these days create more opportunities for long rebounds. He'd also spend a lot of nights playing against small-ball lineups, making it easier to finish inside and grab boards against bigs. But we also have to account for no perimeter mismatches, i.e the point of smallball is that you have 5 guys who can competently defend slashers.

Fun little fact:

In 2018-19, the 7'0 12.5 ppg averaging and 28.7 mpg playing Brook Lopez made 187 three pointers over the course of the season.
That's over 20% more than the league leader in 1988, who happened to have made over 21 times as many three pointers as Michael Jordan did in 1988.

It is way harder to get blocks when you have to guard all that space offense use today.

The season was 72 games not 82. Readjust your math it is off base line.

In case you haven't figured it out. 3 pointers are not a requirement for success in the Nba.

7 of the 10 best players of all time were not 3 point shooters

He did average that before. And won defense of player of the year while doing it.

If Russell Westbrick won 2x scoring titles putting up 30 - 32 ppg, Mike is putting up 37 - 40 ppg no issue. Especially with no physicality, ample space and pace, with no rim defenders.

1988 - 1993 Michael Jordan is easily the greatest basketball player than ever lived.

To end the 1989 season, Michael played point guard. I think the last 15 to 18 games. He averaged a mid 30 points per game triple double. Dwarfed Magic Johnson’s numbers.

Played like modern stars do with their ball dominance. For scoring and facilitating. Like LeBron, Westbrick, Harden, and Luka. Put up superior numbers than those guys. While also still having the motor and energy to be a better defender than any of those guys even care to dream to be.
